Wiper Blade Spoiler

Right...

I was just out giving the car a bit of a clean before tomorrow's meet and I've noticed that since the last time it was washed it seems to have grown a part

At the service the other week they seem to have fitted a sort of spoiler thing to my driver's side wiper blade. Does anyone know why? Is there some sort of recall on it?

I've never had a problem with my wipers on any of my 3 Yarii - not even at speed - and this is the first to have this thing fitted. Has anyone else got this bit?

Here's a piccy:-

they are just spoliers alan

they are like on your hatchback, deflects the wind over your wipers which pushs your wipers harder onto the glass, stops them lifting.

Thanks Kimi...

I know what it does, the question really is why they've fitted it at the first service rather than at delivery or just leaving it off altogether

I always thought they were for clearing thick snow! :P

And do you notice you only get one on the drivers side. What's going on there?

Probably because it's more important for a clearer view out of your driver's side of the front windscreen, than the passenger side of the front windscreen... :D

...passenger less likely to be driving the car and needing to see where they're going?

Sorry... One of the passenger side on a Yaris would be a bit silly as the driver's side wiper is massive and the the passenger's is tiny

I like the snow idea though - could be very useful come winter ;)

edit: darn, Gnome types faster than me

Never seen one of those before. Can't hurt but I agree with Alan...

Why would they fit it without him even asking/complaining about it?

Check around the car Alan, they may have chipped it for free too! :P

Maybe the wiper wasn’t very good so it was changed at the service interval, blades with the spoilers usually come as a single unit and to my knowledge you can’t buy a spoiler on its own, the wiper either has one or doesn’t.

As mentioned, it stops it taking off at high speeds, creates down force so it sticks to the windscreen.

No, no - no extra chips or bashes! My old man's one of their bigger customers so that would have been more trouble than they could possibly have imagined!

The wiper worked fine - no complaints. My 'screen is RainX'd too. Despite living up here there's not that much rain

Tbh I haven't seen the bill yet as I couldn't pick up the car before the service department closed s they've forwarded it to his lordship's office (means I get a discount too :D )...

I put a set of Bosch Pro ones on the missus's car a while back and the driver side had exactly the same 'fin' on it. Chances are they've either changed the design or put an aftermarket one on cause they had none of the standard in stock.

Saying that last time I got the wipers done was in perth and they just changes the rubbers ...

TBH - aslong as it clears water and doesnt scrape I'd be quite happy

yeah when i last bought some wipers i bought the ones with a spoiler on. and they look exactly the same as the ones u have. its just to make it push harder on the screen. altho it is a pain when u want to lift the arm up. cos it catches the passenger wiper

You've hit the nail on the head Lorne! When I was on my way down to Edinburgh this morning I was looking at the blade/arm from inside the car and I noticed the Bosch logo and text pressed into in the frame. I can't find any reference to it in the checklists and documentation I got from them at the service, but I still haven't seen the invoice...

Sorry Al - I was being a bit slow! No, none of that sort of chip either :(

Alan

Well if it makes you feel any better they're about 20quid a set for the rover and I'd imagine the yaris would be more!

Kate seems happy with them?!
