right, i'm starting to think ahead now - maybe premeture but i've got a few ideas..

Im considering using:

-5efhe block

-5efhe crank

-5efhe cams

-5efhe inlet manifold

-4efte pistons

-4efte rings

-4efte conrods

-4efte head

-4efte sump

-4efte gearbox

-custom exhaust mainfold

-td05 turbo

now my engine knowledge is very limited but i'm learning.

Would this configuration work? also what would the estimated output be? from research the td05 is from the Lancer with an estimated 400bhp output... is this right?

would the internals & block beable to withstand that sort of power?

and finally :P what would that kind of configuration set me back?

J

quite a few people run that sort of hybrid, or so i've heard, not sure how much they get out of it though. you'd need a bit more to get to high powers though, wouldn't get 400hp just from those...would need a rrfpr, injectors, better fuel pump, fcd, decat, fuel computer / piggy back etc.., boost controller, fmic etc...

i reckon standard with the configuration you detailed, you could get to about 180hp - 200hp on stock internals, but past that its better to get forged rods and pistons etc...i think the 4efte rods are good for about 21psi then they're done, and 200hp is stretching it on stock internals. if you can find cheap 4efte & 5efhe engines then i dont think itd cost too much, as i believe the parts would go straight in, or should..

also, i need someone else to confirm this, but i think keeping the 5efhe head would be more beneficial as its a bit freer flowing...and if you got the acis manifold, it will help with low end torque, felt greater with the turbo

hmmmm thanks mate..

i'd be happy with 200 bhpish...

what turbo do stock 4efte's come with?

I think theyre the CT9-A on the starlet GT and CT9-B on the glanza. Only difference is an extra fin but cant remember if its on exhaust or compressor side. I think thats right anyway!

yup, that'd be right. there's a td04 kit out for the 5efe / 5efhe / 4efe / 4efte, by dale (braidedlines.com) which would be suitable for 200hp, and i believe it comes with everything you need, turbo, oil lines, heat exchanger (liquid to air intercooler), wastegates etc....tis what i'll use when i turbo my cynos....now to find a cynos... :(

I bought my Cool charger system (water to air intercooler) from dale!

Great chap to do bussiness with!

hmmm tempting.

J

nah, he's in australia...but i heard, i think from tim, that the shipping is very resonable, i think it was like £60 shipping for the intercooler from australia...

and yeah, the custom stuff tempted me too, he gave me a price list of some things as well

nice one - e-mail sent - think i might have asked to much :D

J

Yes i think shipping for the cool charger system was about £60, and that came in a huge box!

haha, i sent him like 4 emails...then he stopped replying when he figured out that i wasnt gonna buy anything for years yet! helpful chap though, gave me a damn near full price listing of everything...

damnit, why cant people like that live in england, itd make everything so much easier....now its time to pimp myself on the streets of caterham and get some money

What prices did he send you?

mind sharing?:P

no prob, ill just check the emails now...

...(5 mins later)....here goes:

hi mate,

the kit is $1300au which includes the following

manafold

gaskets

oil feed

oil drain

water lines

dump pipe flange

k&n air filter

remote oil filter is $450

turbos range from $150-$500

the intercooler kit is $1275

piping kit is $450

blow off valve starts at $250 and up to $600

the microtech is $1495 wired in, i can dyno the car no problems at all,

we are located in sydney,

fitting is $650 for the turbo kit which includes mods to the turbo to fit,

dump pipe is $350 joined to your exhuast.

we generally dont reccomend a surge tank for these cars, just a walbro

intank pump which is around $200.

the braidedlines can cost up to $3000 for a full engine bay, i would

really need to sit down with the car and work out every fitting that is

required etc to get it all happening

and i think the prices are all in australian dollars

wow, just realised, thats about £546.46 for the whole turbo kit...thats pretty good value if you ask me!

Posted

yeah - dale just e-mailed back....

Tempting....

J

Posted

ok - i've got $1600 now

what will i need from him to make this work?

turbo kit, Intercooler kit & Piping & what else?

J

Posted

i belive you will need the tdo4l turbo, also the kit with the microtech ecu would be a good investment, you will need to have a oil feed from thesump. i am also considering this kit.

there are some handy links for turboing a 4efe, same basic principle as any 5e, im guessing the microtech ecu would be a must on an acis manifold.

Go for it J, thats what I'm working up to, albeit slowly :( hence all the suspension mods, Whiteline, TRD etc I've done and the Exedy race clutch thats still sitting in the kitchen

Never mind should get round to getting it fitted this weekend :D

I think the next thing's gonna be the GTT rear brake conversion

Do you realise how hard it is to convince the missus the car needs a new turbo, when it doesn't actually have one to start with

Posted

yeah - i'm thinkin about it - got the MOT on friday & i'll see what happens before i do anything - havn't used the Cynos in a few months....

trouble is half the stuff yoiu've done to yours wont fit mine lol

BTW - just tell the missus is SHOULD have a turbo - it's an option :P

it helps not having a missus! :P

oh, and just tell her they forgot to put a turbo on it when they were building it in japan and that they're sending it to you at an extra cost
