Air Con Issue

Hey guys, just a quick question for you which I can prob guess the answer to.

The A/C in my Avensis seems to believe it works (ie the light comes on on the button!) but there's isn't actually any cool air coming through, just the same temp as if the A/C is switched off.

Is there anything I can check before I take it into the dreaded garage ?!

I had it done on a Nissan Primera by a local garage a couple of years ago, first they tested the system with coloured gas to check for any serious leaks then they refilled it, cost me about £40 I think.
