Hi all, please be gently with me, new to all this. Sorry to bring the same old thing up again but I have just purchased an X-Reg Avensis 1.8 Vvti GS (53k on clock) & I think I may have a problem with the old oil consumption. The motor has just used all its oil in a month but at this stage I have no idea on mileage covered. The car was purchased from an independant dealer and as far as I can tell has a full service history with Toyota. I have just contacted the dealer to let them knoe the problem as it is still under warrenty with them, the question is, how do I stand on getting it sorted? Have I done right by going back the the dealer or should I try Toyota direct? No mention of the fact Toyota seem to know about the problem has yet been made to the dealer. Any thoughts anyone has would be much appreciated as I have just got rid of a motor that was using oil only to possibly buy another!

Hi

Mine was going the same way but the particular dealer I was using for servicing in Derby were none to sympathetic. I suspected a problem and as it was then 3 yrs old i bought the extended warranty package for 2yrs. A year later and at the 70K service at another dealer i explained the problem. They told me to come back in a thousand miles for a consumption test. It was actually 1700 miles and it had used 2 litres. With no hesitation they told me that toyota knew of this problem and had extended the warranty on affected engines to 100k miles. In other words i needn't have shelled out on the warranty as the dealer would still have done the new short engine. Although I did get a full new clutch out of them due to the faulty rivet problem (again a recognised defect).
