hi guys need some tips and tricks for cleaning up the engine bay, got some free time on my hands so i thought i would give the engine bay a bit of bling. any tips or ideas greatly appreciated.thanks :group-cuddles:

Yeah I recommend Gunk as well - transformed an engine on an old car we had :thumbsup:

Saw you on Saturday must have been around lunch time you were turning right at Cobridge Lights :thumbsup:

Hi not about engine bay cleaning but cleaning in general i have just purchased a bottle of auto glym ultra deep shine.

Bought it as the guy in the shop said it was the best

Im just wondering if any of you guys and gals have tried it and what was the results.

Not had chance to try it as yet its been to sunny up here in the north east

Just had a read of that site - Not sure about the Pressure Washer though - I took a layer of laquer off my escorts bonnet with one of them a few years ago! :eek:

Gunk, Jizer, Steam cleaning are all good ways to clean an engine bay. (Make sure if you use a steam cleaner - NOT to direct it directly onto the electrics, dizzy cap etc)

And once you`ve done all that and it`s nice n clean n spangly. Spray a proprietry (sp) protectorant all round. Stops things going rusty/oxidising. :thumbsup:

I reccomend 'Duck Oil' and a engine bay detailing ket from Halfords, some guy on celica club recently had his engine spotless with the detailing kit, all aluminium polished, everything clean and laqcuered - looks very good.

I use the Duck Oil to give the engine bay a good clean and gegrease, but it seals all electrics first to stop moisture getting in.

put it a spray bottle, spray it into all areas in the engine bay, on and around engine, leave for a few hours, come back with a large paint brush and a can full of duck oil, brush the duck oil into stubborn areas and work it around stuff to agitate all the grease and muck, rinse away with a hose. you will need to wash the engine down with a mild detergent if you want to spray paint or lacqeur surfaces, although it doesn't contain silicones.

its an excellent electrical connection sealant, penetrating oil for rusty nuts/bolts, cleaner / degreaser etc http://www.deb.co.uk/ukswarfega/(lbpirszuh...uct.aspx?id=175

Ive just ran out and will be buying some, my duck oil was about 7 years old, the 5 litre tub lasted ages, I don't think Deb/swarfega made my duck oil, so i can try this new one out if you guys want. i'm buying some in august if anyone wants to make a group buy.

Also gets you out in the summer prepping the engine bay not just to clean it, but to maintain it, service sprays once a year in the summer prevent corrosion in the hot damp days, cleans away harmful winter muck and salts, helps you identify components, clean to work on, and of course, you may aswell get the socket set out and spanners and screw drivers and make sure everything is bolted up and screwed down. Things rattle and vibrate loose on engines and in the engine bay. As the duck oil is a penetrating fluid it is advisable to nip stuff up it if needs it. My engine bays have each revealed a few bolts needing tightened every service, if only a 1/4 turn. I check bolts every oil change, but generally inspect everything every time i lift the hood. I only do the service spray once per year and this year the engine is much cleaner, and easier to keep clean, and good to work on, also looks good :D

I'm glad stuff isnt wire locked like an aircraft, wire locking took ages :lol: but was a good idea ;)

Yeah I was in the Celica - I was coming from the Direction of Burslem so I went straight across and was about 3 cars behind you :thumbsup:

Youknow.... A thought has just occured to me. I`ve been using duck oil on my bikes for donkeys years... But...... It never ever occured to me to use it on my cars... D`Oh!!!! :lol::lol::lol:
