Sluggish Fuel Gauge

I've had the 2002 Estate for just under 1 month now and have noticed that the Petrol Gauge is very slow to indicate the level of fuel within the tank.

It can take up to 10 minutes to finally reach a reading.

Is this a problem with a float within the tank or the sender unit.

dont know about that particular car, but many fuel gauges are 'damped' so that they dont react fast to fluctuations caused by fuel moving forward and backwards in the tank. It is quite normal and intentional that it takes a while to reach its reading when you turn the ignition on.

All Avensis fuel gauges take several minutes to show the fuel level - don't worry about it.

It just goes to show how well built the car is when you are reduced to moaning about something as petty as the fuel guage being slow.

I had the same issue. The plastic behind the needle was a bit tight, and the garage did a bit of magic involving a heated needle on the opening for the needle and the result was it was fixed. It's a 10 minute job, and the only thing I needed done under warranty!!
