Corolla Gxi Speedo Problem

Right here goes...

When I bought my GXi back in March I bought it sold as seen for a bargain as I read through the service history etc and knew what to look for. The speedo needle has flickered since I bought the car and has now stopped working altogether, so now I've no speed indication or trip counter. The rev counter works fine.

On one of the old Toyota service records I noticed there is a quote for a part to fix this speedo flicker. Quote: "Req Sensor and Gear - £270"!!!!!!!!!!!! No way am I paying £270 to fix the problem so does anyone know if I can get this part off any other Toyota model or gearbox second hand??? :(

Cheers

I've rang any scrappies in London I can think of and none can help or even have a clue about Toyotas! I can't get Toyota parts anywhere in London.

The main question here isn't about where I can get the part, but if I could get the part of another Toyota (Celica, Carina E etc etc) and then work from there???????????? <_<

Assuming you're asking about the Vehicle Speed Sensor (would you possibly have the part number handy?), part number 83181-12020, here's a list of vehicles that use the same part: Any 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic equipped petrol engined E10 or E11 Corolla, all Yaris and Yaris Verso models incl. diesels, any 1.6 or 1.8 Carina E or Avensis, '91-'96 Camry automatic, any automatic Mk. I Rav4, all 1.8 petrol Mk. II Rav4s, '93-'98 Celica ST 1.8, all Land Cruiser Amazons and Colorados from '96-onwards....

Thanks a million RedAE102!!! That's what I wanted to hear... I don't have the part number as the quote was just hand written on a service report. I'd say that Speed Sensor probably does mean Vehicle Speed Sensor so I'll go hunting for the part now! Cheers... :D

Yeah, I rang Toyota and the part number for the Vehicle Speed Sensor is indeed 83181-12020!

I asked if this part was interchangeabe with other Toyota models and of course the sales guy said it wasn't!!!! Probably figured that I wasn't going to buy from them and needed to know for my own information so I could get one second hand!..... and he was right :P
