Castrol Formula Rs 0w-40 For Carina

I have just purchased a 1997 Toyota Carina E 1.8GS with 65,000 on the clock.

It is overdue for an oil and filter change.

My local Halfords had Castrol Formula RS 0W-40 on offer at £17.49 so I reasoned that this was a better buy than the semi-synthetic 10W-40 at £11.99.

Castrol say it's OK to use in any car, but do you think it's advisable?

Should I have just bought the cheaper oil if it is more suitable? The RS stuff is obviously intended for high performance cars but as long as I have nothing to lose by using it the RS stuff seems a good choice?

Use 10-40 Semi. It's absolutely fine and more than meets the spec req'd. The more important factor is to have regular oil changes (ie before the oil breaks down), so semi should be good for 10k. Vauxhall do an offer of buy 3 get 1 free, so Semi 10-40 works out pretty cheap.
