Saved Someones Life And Got 5 Years?

Have signed it. OK, if the Nissan driver was driving too fast for the conditions then he deserves whatever the fine / points / ban for that are.

But racing????? There's surely no way you can be responsible for what the guy behind you does. The number of times I've been driving at a sensible speed for the conditions, and the capabilities of my car, and have had someone trying to keep up with me.

When I had the Boxster S, a Skoda trying to keep up with me down a twisty road was all over the place, despite the fact that I was driving wtihin the speed limit and well within the capabilities of the car; and no way was I racing him, I wasn't even trying because I don't race anybody on the roads. What's the point anyway if you're in a Porsche sports car and he's in a Skoda (sorry no offence to Skodas, some of them are very nice). Similarly what would be the point of racing a Fiesta 115bhp with a 200SX?

Anyway, seems from this verdict that if he'd lost it while driving behind me then I'd have been responsible for the accident? How can that be right?

festival park has changed a lot in the last couple of years mate. its full of speed bumps and cctv(not that ive ever bothered with that scene)

as for the guy who thinks that you can drive anywhere in stoke on trent quickly!!!! let me tell you mate your lucky to be able to go a mile ANYWHERE in stoke on trent without seing a gatso money box. there are more gatsos in staffordshire than any other county!!!! they are !Removed! everywhere :censor:

as for the guy thinking that u are only hearing half the story i read the local paper every night ,and however difficult it is for u to believe the lad in question has got five years for stopping his car reporting a fatal accident and admitting to breaking the speed limit . he drove within his capabilities and his cars---the other driver killed himself and his passenger by driving recklessly and in a vehicle that was badly maintained. of course i have a lot of sympathy for the families who have lost their sons, but to blame this lad for their deaths and calling for him to receive a LIFE sentence is ridiculous.

sorry to rant but it really makes me wonder if i would stop and report if some idiot tried to race me and crashed! i too could be lookin at 5 years!!!!!!!!!! :censor:

Isn't it fun to live in S-o-T!! Coming past your house in the morning is the worst part! I haven't been up long so when I come down along the main road from Lime Kiln Bank, to Longton at 25mph (yes 25 there's always someone ahead who is extra cautious) I almost fall asleep! That road should be a 40!

Anyway you are right that it is hard to go quick anywhere within s-o-t, and that the roads that Karma was talking about are outside of Stoke and more in the country in the Staffordshire Moorlands, but if you live in the area you know where every camera is and you can avoid or slow down, so at night these local kids can and do go fast with no worries about traffic or cameras

I guess the general rule is to not race I guess

I do feel sorry for the Nissan Driver, and I have read all the articles in the Sentinel, but I do feel we must be missing some information that the courts had to reach their verdict

Actually, the bit I keep forgetting is that the court didn't reach a verdict - he entered a guilty plea - presumably he figured that as he was speeding he might be found guilty anyway and as the petition says he wanted to get a reduced sentence. I guess that if he had known what the sentence would be he would have entered a not guilty plea.

Strange system we have; I have known other people on completely different cases feel that they should plead guilty even when they weren't because they were frightened of what might happen if they were to plead not guilty but then lose the case.

I think if he feels he really isn't guilty he should now have the right to have his case tried properly.
