Check Engine Light Problem

Hi,

In my 95 corolla model, i am seeing the check engine light coming on since quite some time. I took the car to advanced auto parts and the person told me how to diagnose the light. ( the hand held computer does not work for this model).

so as per the manual, i shorted the points and took the reading.

it showed...

7 blinks....pause....1 blink....long pause......and this cycle keeps repeating....

can anybody tell me what to infer from this and how to solve the problem.
