Inconsistencies

Ok, so here I have two 89 Corolla SR5 5 speed's.

Both are carbureted.

Both are mounted up the same.

Yet my parts car seems to have two things my main does not...

One I can easily identify, seeing as it has a cap ontop saying "Power Steering" :P

The other is an oddly barrel-shapped, horizontally mounted device, directly under the alternator.

It has a decent-sized pully on it, which runs a belt to one half of the camshaft pulley(It's a double pulley with a seperator) and than to another, smaller pulley mounted roughly between the alternator and the engine block.

Ontop of that, I was to believe initially that both of my cars mounted standard 4AF engines, seeing as neither have an oil cooler. I can't specifcally see the engine model numbers on the block right now, but this is all taken from info based around my repair manual.

The problem with that idea is, although my main car doesn't have stickers under the hood anymore, the parts car does, and they're stickers for a 4AFE.

It is always possible someone swapped hoods or what not...but I don't have that much history on the car.

Aside from that, the fact that there is power-steering on one, and not the other doesn't entirely surprise me. Now, the fact that there is an unknown device mounted under my alternator does.

Anyone have any clues or info...something that could figure out a few of these things for me?

Thx in advance.
