"In case of Emergency (ICE)".

The idea is that you store the word "ICE" in your mobile phone address book, and against it enter the number of the person you would want to be contacted "In Case of Emergency". In an emergency situation ambulance and hospital staff will then be able to quickly find out who your next of kin are and be able to contact them.

It's so simple - everyone can do it. Please do. Please will you also forward this to everybody in your address book, it won't take too many forwards' before everybody will know about this.

If you want to have more than one contact then have

ICE

ICE2

It would be ignorant to ignore this as It really could save your life.

A good friend sent me the email this morning... did it right away. May be worth mentioning that peeps should name their ICE contact too and their relation if poss. I've put in my Mum so have stated her name in the contact section on my mobile so they know who to talk to. Just a thought.

Saw this on the news earlier today and it sounds like a really good thing - if anything happens to me its good to know they will call Rich or Mum straight away without having to dilly-daddle with different numbers.

Good idea! DO IT!

Don't know about this.. i've often thought about what would happen if i had an accident at work.. would my wife want to be contacted by hospital staff with bad news, or would she rather hear it in person from a friendly face?. In my wife's case, she'd rather a friendly face gave her bad news.

After saying that, it is a good idea to have an ICE contact, just maybe not your next of kin.. ask them what they think, and ask yourself how you would feel if hospital staff contacted you with bad news about a loved one, wouldn't you rather a friendly face told you in person?.

If you had an accident at work and you were killed, the Police would normally contact your next of kin.

I would rather have a professional tell me any bad news otherwise I would associate the ‘friendly face’ with what had happened.

Having an ICE contact makes the job of their emergency services a little easier and quicker especially if the patient is unconscious and has no other ID on them, those minutes saved could mean the difference between getting to the hospital in time, or getting there too late.

Also, if you kidnap anyone, it's easy to find out where to phone the ransom demand to

.......I do not condone kidnapping, before anyone starts :P

I thought about that myself. Hope that doesn't reveal any latent tendencies towards crime! :o

Just emailed a load of mates and sorted out my phone though.
