Fitting 17's

I have been searching and there are mixed opinions on what offset is better for 17" wheels.

Some say 38, others say 42

At the moment my car has been lowered 35mm in front and 38mm at the rear, and I will soon be getting 17's fitted.

Can someone explain does a offset of 38 stick in the arch more or less than a offset of 42, and which offset would be better for me.

Also as my car is still higher than a tsport, would I still get a bit of rubbing?

At the end of the day I know I will probably need to get the arches rolled.

Sorry if I offended you earpl as you'r complaining about people not using the search button, but it seems as if this hot weather is affecting you.

Offset explained...

wheel-offset-300.gif

The offset is the distance between the mounting surface and the centre line of the wheel, it is always measured in millimetres.

If you sit the wheel down on a flat surface and measure the width of the wheel, divide it by 2, you get the centre line. The offset is then the difference between this centre line and the point in which the wheel comes into contact with the hub (mounting surface). The bigger the offset, the closer it will sit to the strut, the smaller the offset, the closer it will sit to the arch.

So, to answer your question, to avoid as much archwork as possible, the bigger the offset you put on, the less archwork will be required. I'm sure that the Yaris offset can be anywhere between 35 - 45mm. In this case, an offset of 42 will be better than an offset of 38.

Even with an offset of 42 - 45, i would suspect that lowering the car with 17", archwork will probably still be required.

Hope it helps.

Now a list of other members will say something completely different and leave you as confused as you were before you posted

EDIT: My car also sits higher than a standard T-Sport, i have 17" with ET42.. i recon i could lower my car upto 40mm without archwork.. ask rossnova or Ryan.. both have seen the car.

Thanks for that, it helped a lot, I don't even know what offset the wheels come in yet.

The more offset you have, the least interference with the arches you'll have to deal with... on the other hand going overboard you'll have issues with clearing suspension hardware, depending on wheel width and tire size.

That said, my setup is 17" x 7" ET40mm. Tires are 205/40ZR17 Yokohamas. I have 10mm spacers in the back to even out the look.

The car is dropped around 50mm, and I've been through rubbing hell and back, I can tell you everything that will go wrong, and how to fix it decently. I can drive with the wheels actually tucking in the arches now without rubbing, but it took quite a bit of work.

i had et38 17x7 with 205/40/17 tyres and it rubbed, id say try et4o as youve got that davy (cfc1) and it doesnt catch the suspension so hopefully should clear the arch as et38 wont but it only caught a little bit,
