Not had this problem on a toyota but had ages ago on a motor with an idle wire going to the carb. There was a poor connection and without it the idle selloniod (cant spell) would not operate, hence the car would only start and not run.

It could however be a miltitude of things so at least check you are getting a good supply of clean fuel and (which I assume you have done) then yep look at the electrics.

Sorry cant offer more help

It does sound like it could be fuel starvation, amongst other things.

You say the pump runs all the time, do you mean when you just turn the ignition on but don't try to start it? It should only run for a couple of seconds to prime the system, and again whilst the engine is cranked. If it fails to start the fuel pump should shut off again. If yours doesn't do this, then it might be a bit of a clue, but I can't think what it would suggest.

Some possible problems on the fuel system might be:

Stuck open FPR

Loss of manifold pressure reference to FPR

Blocked fuel filter

Blocked breather in fuel tank (take off the filler cap and see if you get a rush of air)

Fuel pump relay

Faulty fuel pump

I don't think there is a fuel pressure sensor anywhere in the system that would shut off the pump (unless there is one integral to the fuel pump).
