Which Engine?

I have recently bought a new '53 plate (pre-reg.) Avensis T-Spirit with a 2 litre petrol engine. The engine cover has the logo "Toyota-D4-VVT-i".

From various Web sites, I found that it denotes "a second generation D4 direct-injection gasoline engine whose combustion chamber shape, intake ports, and fuel injector type have been extensively modified for more power and improved fuel economy". This engine variant is called the 1AZ-FSE.

In real terms, it is supposed to give a small improvement in bhp and torque over the other 2 litre engine, the multi-point injected 1AZ-FE. Referring to the Avensis handbook, the top speed in each gear is slightly higher on the 1AZ-FSE than in the 1AZ-FE.

Note that, although both engines externally are apparently the same, the disposition of the catalytic converter elements are different on the two variants (see handbook).

The question is, which engine is fitted to the latest Avensis?

The New Avensis 2 litre petrol has the 1AZ-FSE AND THE 2.4 has the 2AZ-FSE I think the "FSE" is direct injection and the "FE" is normal multi point. The new Avensis in our showroom definatly has the "FSE" engine

Hope this helps

1AZ-FSE means 2 L Aluminium block (1AZ) with direct injection cylinder head (FSE)

The 1.8 Litre engine is called 1ZZ-FE. The FE is the multipoint injection cyl. head.

Other petrol engines used in the Avensis are

3ZZ-FE 1.6 L

2AZ-FSE 2.4 L

Best of all, these engines all have timing chain, i.e no timing belt to change

:yes: but timming chain means change oil every 6k max

ask any mechanic about chains and poor used oil ie they need clean oil to work ie not rattle and last

nissan micras had loads of timming chains so did mercs :eek:
