Just seen this on the BBC news too. Speed cameras that calculate average speed over a 28 mile stretch.

Wonder how long it will take for these to be used on our motorways?

More info

Of course there are great tracts of Scotland where there are NO fixed speed cameras whatsoever...

Welcome to the Highlands

We do, however have very sneaky policemen... I, personally, would rather have sneaky policemen who can keep an eye on road safety and conditions rather than fixed cash machines

They already are - they're on the M4!

They have been used around Nottingham and Northampton for over 3 years now. There are also rumours of them being installed on the M42 (southern streatch of Birmingham - NEC - M40 interchange) a few months ago.

Hope not - I've been up and down there in the last few months!

Only saw a couple of cameras, but you can't go that fast anyway down there, as it's always full of roadworks!

Yup they're on the back of all the new digital information boards. i.e on virtually every single overhead gantry now between J7 (M1 interchange) and J3A (M40 interchange). You got to have been blind not to have seen the warning signs on said overhead gantry's...

The only thing is I'm not sure if they have actually been activated yet...

Saw the speed camera signs from when you get off the M40 onto the M42, all the way upto the M6.

Couldn't get over 70mph anyways, cause of the roadworks, so no worries....

Didn't think they were SPECS though, as there are already normal Gatso's operating up there every few miles....

There are loads of speed cameras on the main road from the border to inverness

(not sure what the road number is)

but it took us ages to get there when we went to loch ness and we even made a game of who could spot the next camera first
