I just removed the airbox to replace it with a K&N filter only but then when I started the car on the dashboard the Engine light lit up and remained On, I think this is because I took off the airflow sensor that is with the airbox..

then when i drove the car couldn't Rev the car alot because it was missing continously on all gears...

any help pls? how can I remove the airbox without affecting the sensor?

If you don't remove the MAF Sensor the motor doesn't work...

You must made a "support" for the MAF like that:

See my first post I edit it.

If the MAF sensor isn't connected, the "calculator" are disorientated...

Sorry for my english... :(

basically, if the sensor isnt sensing any airflow the ecu will think that your airbox is %$(ered, therefore if the ecu (computer) doesnt snes any air flow it cant inject the correct amount of fuel. none of that = no air fuel mixture = no bang = no power.

If sensor is not in place the ecu will run in limp home mode.

But I'm a noob in english so it's difficult for me to explain like that...

Thx for this "thought passing on" !

You will need to connect the air sensor (MAF sensor) up otherwise it cannot detect how much air is entering the engine,

what car do you have?

Do you have a picture of your engine bay, Is the airbox on top of your engine or is it down the side of the Battery.

You would be better off buying an air filter that is made for the car, then the piece the MAF sensor fits into is already there.

Here's a picture of mine, as you can see the sensor is screwed onto the cast piece at the bottom of the filter

I have an HKS MAF sensor section that Im happy to sell if you want it ...

If you're interested PM me? Dont want much for it and you could use it 'in-line' to your air filter by just clamping to either side of it. Its pre-drilled to take the Yaris MAF sensor.

problem sorted after this bit  the maf sensor MUST go between the inlet manifold and the induction kit.

  • 2 months later...

do you have to remove the airbox?

can't you just remove the filter fromthe airbox, and attach the cone filter to the end of the inlet hose leading to the airbox?

yes you have to remove the airbox, if you just attach the filter to the end of the box then there's no point in buying an air filter.

My Pipercross was attached to the end of the airbox, it made a nice noise when I had it! Got the GReddy now though which is better as it has a more direct route to the inlet!

Far as I know the guy has the HKS MAF sensor section that I sent him on and working.

Moffmo has a HUGE max power stylee filter on the side of his standard airbox on his P2. Reason I remember was at the bubble charity meet it had been burning the soundproofing under the bonnet and we helped him remove it! (The soundproofing not the induction filter)
