Had to order a new key from toyota as i lost my keys (and had no spare), they advised me that it would need programming to the ecu, where can i get this done? the new key opens the doors and turns in the ignition but will not turn over the engine, can anyone help? or even a price to program it?

I know in my local garage the service tech is reguarly doing it. I know it involves opening and closing the door alot as have watched him do it.( I work next door.)

would of thought it was all part of getn a new key. and they would of done it there and then.

i may be wrong, but i thought that unless you had one of the original master keys you need to get a new ECU as well, with keys. As I understand it the process for adding a new key to the ECU involves using an existing key.

the other thing is that the key 'blank' has to be the right one, you should have been asked fot the VIN or the code that came with the original key ( 5 digits i think ) I guess that makes sure you get the right one for your ECU
