can any one tell me if it is possible to wire an amplifier to the standard cd player or if it would be better to fit an aftermarket head unit i have already tried it but now there is no sound coming from the head unit ! :help:

Yeah its do-able... I have done it... there was a thread about it somewhere... basically you need to get a wiring loom from Toyota for the standard Yaris head unit (about £15 I think) and plug it in the back... then connect the original Speakers up again and you should now have two extra wires coming off... these come off at speaker level... so if you want to plug an amp in you have to drop it down to line level first (you can get a convertor from maplins or sommat). Then run your wires to the amp and then to the Speakers and you are done.

Be wary, my top dash Speakers stopped working when connected to the amp.. didnt make much difference soundwise I dont think... but I think it was because you werent connecting the last set of wires directly to a speaker (impedence levels or sommat.. im sure someone will correct me)

Thats how I did it... worked really well, im sure there are other ways.. ultimately you might want to get a different head unit tho
