Black Headlight Housings

A couple of us locally in Canada have done variations of this treatment to our headlights. Maybe some inspiration for the Phase 2 owners out there?

No worries. I think I can see what you mean though - simply sprayed the housing around the headlight and indicators then?

Looks good in black - not sure how it would look with silver, etc - think it'd be a bit "chavvy."

Looks good though matey.

How did u get them apart?

Pre-heat the over to 150F then turn it off.

Bake one light for 10 minutes in there.

Use big flathead screwdriver and curse your way to separating the lens from the housing.

Take out pieces, paint them.

Bake again and reassemble while hot.

Would I need to re-seal them? And if so using what?

I didn't end up using anything. When you open it up the sealant stretches out, and I made sure it went back in the cavity so that when I put it back together (after baking it a bit) the sealant was nice and soft. It's been holding up just fine, no moisture issues.

Looks great!

What front spoiler is that?

CB

Thanks!

Front spoiler is made by REV Competition, it's a copy of the OEM TRD spoiler, but it's made to fit our Canadian bumpers, which are thicker by at least 1".

Pascal

What kind of paint did you used?? did you used plastic primer??

I used a satin black paint made by Krylon, no primer. Gave the parts three very light even coats to get an even texture.
