try updating your virus checker

do you know the names of the virus you had, check norton or computer assocciates for definitions or removal tools.

do you have a firewall and is it working

Yes it would make sense to use norton firewall, but you don't have to.

you could also try mcafee, which i'm finding better than norton at the moment.

don't know many others

BlackIce is a good firewall,

ZoneAlarm is an OK firewall (and free)

Kerio do a decent Firewall

The Problem with software firewalls is it still leaves it down to the user, a decent hardware firewall can be the best option

Install Spybot and Adaware and look for any spyware or trojans on your system. Norton 'should' have picked them up, but since the mails are still sending, try those 2 progs. At least one should find the problem.

A firewall won't be a good solution. If you wanted to stop the problem, it would require blocking all your outgoing mail.

Although in a general area, definitely install one. In this day and age there's so many virii and malicious trojans out there that just prey on unprotected PC's.

Microsoft Antispyware Beta is excellent for removing all the nasty spyware.

Personally if it isn't completely gone after an hour or so of messing I would backup anything important and wipe the machine and reinstall - just to be safe. Then scan the backups before allowing anything back.
