the ABS light comes on when the ABS isnt working... (anti lock braking system)

When you start the car, it probably will come on as a diagnostic test...

If the light is on all the time, Its normally one of the four sensors fitted on each wheel

Normally its the NSF to go fisrt but can be easially dignosed via a Toyota dealer or even a check wire with someone who knows the fault codes

All it will do is shut the ABS system down, But the warning lamp on would be an MOT test fail

Hi all,

My ABS light is on at the mo - I took it to a local garage and they said its the ABS sensor on my driver's side - apparently it'll cost 175 pounds as the part is toyota is supplied by Toyota only - does this sounds expensive? As u can gather I have no clue with cars - and seem to have no luck with my rav 4.

Any help would be mucy appreciated.

Nikki :unsure:

Frustrating when you are in somebody elses hands isn't it. Luckily I have a pet TV repair man who is honest as the day is long but if I didn't then I would be at the mercy of somebody who could tell me anything - it's a box full of liquorice allsorts as far as I am concerned.

The ABS light does indeed mean that something is amiss as stated above. It may still work but not as it should. I take it that you have had it diagnosed by Toyota so the sensor has been correctly identified. I can suggest several options;

Try to negotiate a better price or phone a few dealers.

There is a company called Andrew paige;

http://www.andrewpage.com/DepotDetails.aspx?BranchID=241948

They have branches in Manchester and Stockport and stock a huge selection of ABS sensors. BMW quoted me £150 for one that was allegedly not available elsewhere and Paiges sold me one for £52 in a BMW bag :huh:

There is an organisation called findapart on the web;

http://www.findapart.co.uk/

They may be able to find you a second hand one although I would choose this as the last option.

There are a multitude of local garages that will fit it for you at a very reasonable price.

Good luck

Hi there, i have a similar problem, but when my car is off, the ABS is making a buzzing sound, unless we remove the negative wire from terminal. It hew up alot of Battery as well. Any solutions or ideas for this problem?

Also the brake pedal vibrates when we touch it during the buzzing sound.
