T25 Safety Recall

Just had a recorded delivery letter from the dealership regarding a recall on the steering column. It says that an element of the column may have been fitted incorrectly leading to excessive wear and loss of steering control. Mine's a 53 2003 reg by the way.

Anybody else had this yet??

Nope, but then mine's an 05, so hopefully they've already sorted it

Ah, not the bl**dy steering column again. :ffs:

I had this problm on my previous 01 model and got rid of it because it could not be fixed after a lot of greasing and eventual replacement. I hope this is just down to a small batch from the factory.

tezza,

My T-Spirit is a '53 plate Avensis, but I have'nt had any notification as to this possible problem. As mentioned, it might just be applicable to a batch of vehicles.

I got nowhere when I spoke to the dealer. They have got to look at it and then see if it needs rectification - they couldnt tell from the chassis number. I wouldnt mind but it was only in last week for more warranty work - oil leak and sticking rear brake caliper, you would have thought that they could have looked then.

umm how good is toyotas build quality

Very, very good, trust me. I've had other cars, germans, japanese and italians, and Toyota is the best on the market you can get at this time. Of corse, it has it's own problems, but trust me, compared with other brands...

Example: I've had VW Golf IV 1.6i. At the time I got the car I would use company one to drive home and to work. So, my Golf didn't get much road, for about 1,5 years. At that time (2001) warranty was only 1 year.

When it got 1,5 years and with only 7500km (4000 miles I guess) one cylinder stopped responding. Can you imagine what followed? I guess you can. I'm not gonna tell whole the story because I want to forget it as soon as possible. Why? It took almost 1000€ from my pocket and tons of letters to VW localy and VW Germany. Answer was always the simple one: It's not in warranty anymore. And what about 7500km only?

That's just one of stories.

Now it's simple. If you have any doubts about quality, don't buy it, don't even look at it at the street, don't read any posts or reply them, just the way I do with VW.

Took the car in today to be checked and it didn't need repairing.

Even more good news was a letter from Mr T apologising and a bottle of champagne for the inconvenience.

What a nice man Mr T is.
