Calling All Gen7 Owners...

I've recently been looking into joining you all in Gen7 heaven...

The thing is, really, they're a bit out of my price range, however, I know a man ;) ...

He's a dealer and can get me many bargains at trade price-

Basically, your standard chap part ex's something in then I get it at his part ex price plus minimal costs (20 or so bucks). He'll keep an eye out for one and Bobs your uncle, bargain Gen7.

My question is...

What is an average Trade price for a Gen7? I'm not fussed age or engine wise, just as cheap as possible for a sound motor that looks like that!!!

Also, he says that Parkers is next to useless, he goes with Glass' guide but i'm too cheap to pay for their website and he's unavailable...

Any help/advice on this or any Gen7 info greatfully received...

Cheers,

Mike

It all depends on how old the car is! We get them in at 9500 and retail them back at 11000 or 12500!

Most toyota dealers dont use parkers either.

Yeah, probably looking at one of the older ones, when was the first? Think it was 99, 9500?!! That's quite a lot for trade isn't it?

We have a y plate one that cost us 8800 so you should be looking a bit lower than that, all depends what shape it is in

If you can try and go for one that was registered after JUNE 2001 - That way you shouldn't have any issues with Dodgy Lift Bolts.

All Gen 7's are superb but some dealers mark them up more than others.

What you need to do is haggle and haggle more with them. Tell them what you want and what you are willing to pay. Let them work for you.

Do a search on autotrader.co.uk for private prices. Gen 7s start at around £6k on there. Bear in mind that these are only the sellers asking prices, they may end up selling at a lower price. And trade prices are generally lower than private ones as well.

I wouldn't have thought that a decent mileage '99 plate would go for any less than £8k.............as with all Toyotas, the residuals are slightly better than most - particularly with Celicas. Retained values after 3yrs are just about 55-60% after that, not much drops off them either.....

Err, how about 2002 '52 plate with 39000 miles for £6500? :P

Sorry, but the gen7 doesn't hold it's value too well. They are very common and about to be discontinued. I wouldn't be afraid of a higher mileage car either. 100k miles in 4 years is going to be mostly motorway miles so the wearing parts (suspension, clutch etc) should be in a good state.

That's gotta be trade right? There's no way that'll be a private/forecourt price?!

It's from the autotrader:

autotrader, 5th car down

It does look to good to be true, compared to similar gen 7 cars on there. <_< But I am sure you could find a good gen 7 for £7k, and a high mileage one for £6k.

Some of the 7th Gen that around the 6500 mark are damage repaired cars. Its a bit naughty of the advertisors not to mention it in autotrader. But you can pick the Cat D ones all fixed up and registered on the road for around £7K ish.

So check the history of the car before jumping in (as I am sure many people do!).
