Lpg Conversion - Where Was Yours Done?

Hi

I'm going to have my 3SFE engine converted to run on GAS, due to spiraling costs of unleaded. The local garage specialist in Huntingdon refuse to do it, due to history of valve degrading... however i know people on here have had the work done and are happy as.

Can you let me know where you went... happy to travel 100 miles to have the work done, the savings will be immense in the long term

Thanks

Danno

It depends on how many miles you do, if it's going to take more than a few years to recover the cost then is it worth it?

It takes the average driver around 70,000 miles to recover the cost of buying a diesel over a petrol, and with the tax due to go up on gas in the next year now the government have realised the enviromental benefits are not as good as they thought it could take you a lot of miles.

In the nicest possible way, i didnt ask whether it was worth it (i know it is)... i just want to know where people went!!!

I appreciate the mathematics, and accept that LPG costs will go up. BUT, it wont rise to 89.9ppl... and when you do miles like i do, its nice to keep overheads down.

Panache AutoGas (Manchester). Sorry, it's a long way, but give them a call and they could perhaps recommend a local installer. Just make sure you use a LPGA approved installer, as they are trained to an approved standard and are accepted by Insurance companies. Carina E's ...no problem for LPG, absolutely brilliant...

  • 3 weeks later...

How much is an LPG conversion? and is it worth it on a 1.8 (7A-FE I think it is)?

I'm currently covering close to 30k a year and could do with saving a few bob (not sure how much I'll save though, but if I can make the money back over 2 years that's fine)

Last time I looked into it on my 7A-FE (2 years ago) it was gonna cost just shy of 2 grand. However there was a 50% grant toward it at the time, so it would have been half that.

Would imagine it's cheaper now...

That's almost as much as my car is worth! I guess I'll wait and spend the 2G on a new car when the Avensis dies (which will hopefully be a long time!).

1st generation closed loop for less than a grand. Latest SGI system around £1350 for a 7A FE engine. Still worth the cost.

Can you really see petrol EVER going down.!!! We're sucking mother earth to death and somehow people still think petrol / diesel is gonna be affordable....time to wake up....and start using cleaner fuels...unless you're happy for your grandchildren to talk about how their forefathers killed the environment!!!
