Passenger Airbag

My daughters Yaris, 1st registered in 2000. Is it possible to switch the passenger airbag off for a baby seat to be put on the front seat?

Is this something you can do yourself or is it a Dealer visit.

Any comments would be appreciated.

No it cant be switched off.

She should put her baby seat in the back of the car - and also make sure its fitted correctly. Its Car Seat Safety week this week - and Halfords are carrying out free checks on baby car seats to make sure they fit the car and baby, I'd highly recommend she goes along, especially as its a free check.

Passenger airbag cannot be de-activated on Yaris

Rear seats have ISO fittings to ensure correct child car seat fastening

i didnt think you should put babys in the front of a car anyway? Air bag or no air bag.

You can if there is no passenger airbag as long as the baby seat is rear-facing I think. If there is passenger airbags then you cant put any baby seat, front or rear facing there. The force of the airbag going off would easily kill a baby or toddler, either by the force of it, or it could smother them.

As babies and children are at a slightly higher risk being in the back of a car, its so important to have a correct car seat for the child fitted correctly.

I was off work on Monday and the fact its Car Seat Safety Week was on GMTV! lol

Didnt VW make the Polo with an option to switch the passenger air bag on or off by the owner??

Simple answer... don't have kids... they'll only vomit on your interior anyway.

Cats do that too, although luckily Jess was in her box at the time and spewed all over her blankey instead (plus it was in the 206 too). Alfie's never spewed in my car, come to think of it, nor has Jess, just in the 206.

A lot of cars you can disable the front passenger airbag and in that case you can have a rear facing baby seat in the front, but then you've gotta think - "will I remember to turn it back on?" - the airbag could save someones life.

Just stick your kids in the back!

They are alot safer in the back anyway!

My mum and dad had an accident when my sister was a baby, it crumpled the front of the car beyond recognition on the passengers side, my mums foot was crushed by the front of the car, shes now disabled for the rest of her life, my sister was in the back but had she been in the front she would have been dead. My mums always thankful she put her in the back that night!

not pointing any fingers^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^but the reason i bought a 5 door yaris was so we could but the little one in the back, even if it was possible to turn off the airbags i`d still have her in the back of the 5 DOOR, the 5 door makes it alot easyer to get the little one in and out of, a 3 door would be a pain plus the 3 doors are kinda chav like, too common :P

Wash your mouth out with soap Robbie - its scandalous I tell thee!

I agree that 5 doors are more practical for little ones - my cats go in the front with me normally and Rich has the practical 5 door Corolla so any future kids will go in the Corolla rather than my Yaris anyway.

3 door just looks sportier! :P :P

Its a pain in the a*se getting the littlen in the back all the time as i've got a 3 door Yari! Its a right chore especially doing it in the pouring rain but youve got to weigh up the concequences, the hassle or putting them in the back or your childs life!

Don’t have a 3 door if there are more than 2 of you (adults that is).

If you have parasites (I mean children) then obviously you will buy a more practical car, then 5 is the answer.

Kids + Cars = Vasectomy

Yeah, its easy to say "well you should buy a bigger car if you have kids", but its easier said than done, especially as you'll be on a tighter budget anyway with providing for a child!

only joking lad, 3 or 5 door are grand what ever suits you, with only the one little one, a 5 door yaris is perfect for us at the min, MAYBE when we have a few more i`ll get something bigger, hopefully i`ll never need a previa

Either way, stop it. It's just wrong!.

Yes, I think that children and their seats are far safer in the back seat even if it is a little inconvenient. You know it makes sense.
