Hi any help would be appreciated.

The (factory fitted) alarm on our 1999 (S reg) RAV4 GX Auto suddenly went off for no apparent reason in the middle of last night. Reset it and everything ok until my Wife parked in a car park, locked the car with remote while getting ticket and alarm sounded again.

Any ideas on what could cause this, and the remedy.

I'd say that likely things to check are the door switches.

Also, the interior shock sensor can throw a wobbler sometimes and go out of adjustment. If I remember correctly it's located behind the lower dash centre column below the stereo. It's behind the bit that looks like it's out of another car with the cigarette lighter and a place for another stereo which is a tacky cubby hole.

This panel just pulls off, and there is a big hole behind with a few control units lying around. Have a look for a black box with an adjustment dial on it. This is the sensitivity adjustment.

Let us know how you get on.

Make sure there are no metallic objects stored near the centre console

e.g

coins, keys,mobile phones

These play havoc ith the interior sensors
