Is The Yaris The New Nova/saxo?

there seems to be a trend forming with the yaris. they are begining to look more and more like novas and corsa's of a couple of years back.

i have lost count how many i have seen on the road with silly way over the top body kits and wheels. there was one on the trade stands at JAE, it was finished in matt paint and had a body kit that made it look like a corsa :o .

now there maybe nothing wrong with that, and some may like that style, but it does tend to attract a certain type of muppet who thinks that it is cool to drive and act like a moron :ffs: and i feel as a club we need to nip this attitude in the bud.

so come on peeps (and especialy yaris owners) your ideas please  .

i know some are bothered by the image the yaris is getting cos they're selling up and moving on so as not to get stereotyped  .

i think its stereotypical in the way that people refer to it being a nova etc...

in all fair honesty ive seen some very good examples of novas, corsas, saxos etc...

just as ive seen good examples of the yaris

OTT kits are not everyones taste and all cars eventually will be hounded with such mods

now the only things that annoy me are cars that are 'altered' in such ways that are just crap in pure essence, not cared for and then driven by an idiot beyond their capabilitys

and believe me i could go out tomorrow, buy a yaris, put a few shonky bits of ill fitting plastic, a rusty old cherry bomb exhaust and then tear round town all day then id be in the muppet category

(hope i made sense then!)

there are not many yarii around here with bodykits on, maybe wheels but thats it. And were not too far away from you.

Only seen a few with bodykits on the rest have been on here with toc so i dont think they are getting as bad as novas or corsas just yet!

I'm not really bothered by the image of the Yaris being the next Nova etc, because its not IMO.

Ok, some people go OTT with mods and make theirs cars look silly, thats their prerogative. A lot of the Yaris' on here are very tastefully done, not to say I would do it as modding my car toi that extent isnt really an option for me - I love my car the way she is, I dont want to change her.

Novas and Corsas are pretty much automotive laughing stocks - say you drive a Nova and you'll get laughed at, but say you drive a Yaris and people think more of you than that.

why though?

to me that announces that people who own a Yaris see themselves in a higher order of society, i.e. we are better than you because of the cars we own...

and a bloke i know of owns a Nova and its probably one of the nicest cars ive seen, and i dont laugh at him when i see him... and its a darn sight quicker than my MR2! :o

some good point there. it is true though that there are some very nice looking novas, corsa's etc around, i was stereotyping, but thats what i mean. how many pple would go out and buy a nova etc that had been modified? possibly not a lot because the image sticks that it may have been ragged silly and not looked after in the service dept. that affects the way ppl veiw all of those cars. look at skoda's for example. the octavia RS is a fine motor and capable at that but skoda' still use there image of yesteryear in their advertising...." yes it is a skoda"

all this bad image can affect resale value. not good for when you want to sell.

i get the same about the rolla "its not bad for a curry delivery vehicle is it" is a common expression, not that that bothers me too much as 1, i'm not planning on ever selling it and 2, if i delivered your curry it would never arive cold! lol

same can be said for mr2's in a way.

so many of them about,. seemed like mr2 after mr2 at donny show, but, most/all of them were kitted up, and well moddified.

just because there are loads of either corsa/novas/yaris/mr2s about maybes isnt a bad thing in a way, its maybe sjust saying that they are good cars.

affordable etc.

It is all stereotypes, which do take a while, if ever, to shift.

Skoda is an excellent example - I would buy a Skoda, as far as I'm concerned its just a VW with a different Badge, however, I know Rich wouldn't touch a Skoda with a bargepole!

Its also personal choice too - I would never buy a Corsa or a Nova, no matter how cheap or nice they were, just because of the stereotypes associated with them - like Moffmos sig in Gold!

Maybe I am just being haughty by saying this, but its a proven and well known fact which out of the Corsa, Nova and Yaris is the better car, and I'm happy with my choice. I hope the Corsa and Nova owners are happy with theirs too, but personally, I wouldnt go there.

I have to admit, i do "look down" on corsas and novas, but one of the nicest cars at the donny show (which was crap) was a mint nova that had suspension mods and some nice exhuast system and that was it.

Paintwork in excellent condition etc.

With yaris, i just think its the crapcept kit that seems to be spreading *urg

It's just nature of the beast. The Yaris has been around long enough for second hand ones to become affordable for the modder generation who are more likely to slap on body kits etc. So the more peeps that do it, the more parts & kits become available and more modified Yaris' will appear on the roads.

It's interesting to see what can and can't be done nicely on a Yaris now, even if most mods are not to my taste.

Who cares???

As long as my car is tastefully modded the way I like it then I don't care what anyone else thinks!

Sometimes people ask me what I drive and I say Yaris and they laugh and say grannys car or whatever but as soon as they see it or I take them a run in it they quickly change their minds.

just what I was going to post.

I thought the "general" impression of the Yaris was a bit of an old ladies car.

Generally the same attitude with Corollas - "flat hat and pipe brigrade"

To be honest any small hatch thats been around for a bit will be modified, both well and not so well! Thought the ones at JAE were on the whole very well done, KIMIS for instance, WOW  what a car. Just look at all the Chav Puntos, Micras, Fiestas etc that are about. Did anyone see the Micras at JAE, some of them were shockingly modified

Well Lee this is one of the reasons i'm selling mine,it is getting an image ;)

i went to another jap car meet the other week and the guys said they were surprised when i got out my car, they were expecting a kid in a baseball cap

A few people will remember last years jae the mr2 bouncing off the rev limiter,

everyone complained.this year i dont know who and i dont care who but it was yaris's i heard being bounced off there rev limiters <_<

Its this sort of thing that gives the yaris a bad name,it also gives the club a bad name

I know alot of people on other car clubs who have noticed the yaris changing,

from old folks cars to young muppets cars.

as Lee said its not good for resale value ...........unless you know its NEVER been

anywhere near the rev limiter(BUY MINE)

Oh Lee if your doing a curry run any chance you can bring me some popadoms too

I use to have a Nova when they first came out in the 80’s. The image was as it is for the Yaris today, a nice small hatch and out of reach for the average spotty adolescent.

Then as time went on and the car/s went into the second hand markets prices inevitably dropped and became affordable to the teenage driver.

We now have a new Yaris and as time goes on that too will become cheaper and affordable to the younger driver, by which time I would have moved on again to another car which will be out of reach to the spotty adolescent teenage driver.

Then the cycle continues.

Yeah, not exactly the end of the world is it? I remember seeing a Rolls Royce convertible at Ally Pally many moons ago. Beautiful paint job with vignettes of hunting scenes and country mansions. The old boys around threw up their hands in horror!

They got over it though.

Granny (and me!) will still be driving around in our Yarii. We may just have to avoid the temptation to race a chav in a similar car, once in a while. ;)

We're both golden oldies! lol

I think any popular FWD hatchback will go that way...

The Top end Saxos are actually good little cars... but they are easy to get hold of and desirable to tune for those that can get hold of them...

The sad thing is the ones with the biggest kits and wheels are the ones with the smallest engines!!!

Im sorry but whats the fun in going nowhere near the limiter in a Supercharged Yaris?... that's the old granny image... (not that you are one! :!Removed!: )

A car is for driving... who gives half a sh*t what others think.

I scorn plenty of Nova/Saxo/106 drivers but who am i to judge... i drive an old grannys car and i have plenty of fun with it... why... because it's my car... it's mine to have fun in, do whatever i like to and to do whatever i like in it. Yes, chav's are a pain, but there is nothing anyone or anything can do to stop them, so let them mod stupidly, let them drive around in muppet machines... it's their money, let 'em waste it!

Revving an engine is a pleasure of the petrol head... it doesn't give the car, the driver, the club or anything else a bad name.

What's the point of putting an aftermarket exhaust on a car if it's never heard?!?! That's just madness!!

Iv been to JAE and the French car show... want to know the difference... JAE was full of car enthusiasts... even the guys/gals who owned chavvy Yaris' weren't burberry capped *****-twits, they were just decent honest car enthusiasts and modifiers. At the FCS... there were maybe 50% decent car enthusisasts... the rest were absolute tw*ts... real proper chavs who wouldn't think twice before flame-kitting a saxo and burning your grandmother. And that's not just image... they really were bad... the whole show was bad.

Of all the cars in the world, i think most have been modified in some way... some are tasteful, some are not... so long as you enjoy your car then that's the main thing... just have a clue Mr Chav man... stop ruining nice little cars like our little Yaris and what were unassuming cars like the Saxo and Nova.

Nowadays what shocks me is that Spotty little adolesent chavs seem to only modify what I term as new cars (Puntos, Saxos, Corsas, clios...stuff thats been out within the last 10 years) ...I don't understand.

When I was a Spotty little adolesent  The cars we modded or should I say 'Customised' were Ford Anglias, Minis, Mk1 Escorts, Ford Zodiacs, A35's, Morris Minors and they would be around 20+years old.

I suppose in my day it was magazines like Street Machine (as opposed to 'Sad'N'Sour) that we followed.

These days the kids just want to 'slap bits on' as opposed to rebuilding a car as well.

This is where a lot of the 'modding' scene has gone wrong ...it's mainly just new stuff that gets messed with. :crybaby:

what a load of s**t........... your after a skyline right? and they dont have an image. there bloddy chav, there just the same as a !Removed!..... every c***s got one. so youve spent all that money on your car and selling it because of an "image"??? it gives me the impression that you need to step back and look at the bigger picture......who cares if people rev there cars? the thing that gives cars a bad name is the misserable sods who drive them. also why does it give the club a bad name? its just a bit of fun at a place where people are going to do this sort of thing, its not exactly the same as doing it down in the safeways carpark everynight. i want you to tell me what gives the yaris an image??

of course this is all my oppinion. well theres a few others aswell.

+ i know of some real nice not ott saxo's. damn whats wrong with nova's my mate has a loverly gte with a gsi block in it.

This topic was bound to get a few peoples backs up but i dont really understand why

If its your car and you like it then who cares what anybody else thinks!

My pride and joy is a ford and cant tell you the amount of times that ive heard the line 'fix or repair daily' do i care? NOPE!

If you buy a car based purely on looks then you are stupid! Try it before you pass judgement!

I would never look down on somebody because of their car - it might be a sleeper about to wipe the look off my face!
