Mot Troubles

It's that time of year again.

MOT for the Yaris (first one since we bought her) - TOMORROW

Should'nt be a problem as everything looks ok inside and out... Except

Lexus lights.

On the standard lights there is the 1 reverse (Left) and 1 Fog (Right)

on these lexus lights there are two of each (both on both sides)

when i fitted them i swapped some of the wiring over so i had two reverse lights - i just ran a wire under the boot lining with an inline fuse just incase.

I could only get the 1 fog to work on the right though and everytime i wired the left one up it blew fuses.

ignored it for a while as i seldom use fogs and still have the one but for MOT it states that if there is a bulb there it must work.

Now i cold simply pull the bulb out and class it as a reflector but thats too easy and i've got all day to figure out why i'm wiring it wrong.

Anybody else had this problem??

solutions??

would be greatly appreciated

I'll keep you posted of progress!

Paul

For the MOT, only 1 fog light is required, and it must be on the right hand side (drivers side), but, as there is a light on the other side it should also be in working order, if there is no bulb in it, it might pass, it will probably be down to the examiners discretion.

Why not go down to the MOT station and ask the tester, he's only human and will advise you on what HE will be looking for.

I'm sure an auto electrician could fix your wiring problem for peanuts, it will be something simple i bet.

Even just ask the M.O.T. guy if he could do you a bit of wiring for an extra fiver, he should know what he's doing!

In most new cars that appear to have two fog lights, the left hand bulb is missing so that the car won't show a left fog only when the right blows.

Maybe there's something in your left hand light to prevent it being wired for that same reason? Have you measured the resistance across the left hand fog light connections?

Tony
