Jealous....

Well i bust my balls for 70ish hours a week doing a highly skilled and highly specialised job with only 1.5 days off a week and a holiday ban for june july and august and for my sins i recieve 18k p/a. But i do get an awful lot of job satisfaction and believe it or not for the majority of the time i really enjoy my work (i revel in stress and love being pushed hard) and that is something that most people cant say about their jobs.

Gnome if you fancy working in a dark hole being bitten by rats (i have a mate who worked maintainence on the tube for a while and he got savaged quite badly sometimes) do it, not my cup of tea though

Postie yes thats a job i would like to do bit i think that job satisfaction would be a little thin on the ground (but the recent £1000 bonus would help) and imagine humping a heavy sack about in on a cold dark jan/feb morning in the p**ing rain and it looks a lot less attractive.

I want the kinda job one of my mates has mon-fri 23k p/a sits on his ***** all day and can even squeeze in a couple of hours kip in the afternoons :crybaby:

My mate starts a new job on Monday.

He a maximum of a 4 hour working day, and if he finishes earlier than that, it's flat-rate pay, so no worries.

It is a night shift, of Midnight - 4am.

For the pleasure, he gets about £120 a night.....

What's he doing?

He'll be doing track & electrics maintenance on London Underground!   :o

Should be fine though, as it is the middle of the night, when no trains are around.

If I knew a job like that was around, I wouldn't have bothered with 6th form, and gone straight into work doing that instead!

Still, it is danger money, and he does have to pay for the health and safety courses that he's had to do. Think that was about a grand in total, but he'll soon make that up with his new wages....

I WANT that sorta money!

The man deserves the money!

I would want a hell of a lot more than that to go anywhere near london underground at the moment! :o

p.s i not one bit jealous of him - i feel sorry for him!

Im a train driver, mainline not undergoround and I dont envy your mate. Trackwork is a very dangerous job, the amount of times we nearly hit those guys is scary... and spending even 4 hours in a tunnel is cruddy work.

Being a postie is better than walking the streets

my dad is in a similar situation he was made redundant last year at the age of 57 and hes finding it near imposssible to get a job due to his age, he feels he has many more years work in front of him but no employer will take him on due to his age even though he has a lot of very valuable expeirience to offer. A double bummer is that he wont qualify for a state pension at 65, plus because his former employer of 20yrs went under so did his pension which was worth a LOT to him even more considering that he cashed in most of his private pension 6yrs ago because of his divorce.

The likelyhood of summit happening between midnight and 4am is pretty remote I would think.... ;)

They'll be no trains around when they're down there, as the tube is closed specifically for those guys to work.

But as I said, it is danger money, and he knows the risks.

I sit on my **** most of the day too, and it isn't fun. It is to begin with, but then I just get real bored, and just wanna go home. I could see myself being made redundant soon, as there seems to be so lttle work to do....

Must work on winning that lottery! :D

Wow that's decent pay, but I wouldnt be keen on doing that - it sounds dangerous and not the best of working conditions!

I'm happy where I am at the moment, one of the most experienced there, it pays the bills, nice office and good people

Still saying that a good few thousand in the bank would be HUGE benefit lol

Ahh 26k. Now that's the stuff dreams are made of.

Downside to working term time only is my pay reflects that, even though i get paid over 12 months :( Still we all have to start somewhere don't we? I currently do 2 jobs totalling 65 hours a week to make up the extra money, knackered isnt the word!

I'm looking at getting into Airfield Operations at the minute, something i've always been interested in and i think it's more 'me'. If anyone knows of anything like this going by the way i'd be more than grateful for the info! (Preferably in the North West!!)
