Can You Afford Your Car?

Recommended Posts

right the question is can you comfortably afford your car or do you really love it so much that you make big sacrifices?

my mates laugh at me when they see asda smart price beans and other products in my flat but the truth of the matter is i make alot of sacrifices for my car. i refuse to spend more than £20 on a night out (once a week or less) il drink alot before i go out and just have top up drinks.

i havnt bought ANY new cloths this year.

i make up excuses to finish my phone calls

i work over 45 hours a week in a ****y supermarket, soon to change i hope,

what do you sacrifice if anything?

i think if anyone can afford a mr2 out right then they wouldnt have an mr2 they would have something better, i mean as in if i could afford 5k outright for a car id go one step further and get some finance and have a better car, hard to explain what i mean.

naah, id rather have an MR2 for the price and not have to get a finance and make sacrifices!

Cheap(ish), and powerful, can't think of another (affordable) car i'd have!

This isnt just talking about the n/a, tubby costs are considered ;)

Yeah... I can comfortably afford my 2... but the uncomfortable bit is all the mods... damn addictive power inducing mods... ;)

Quad lights give you how much BHP :P

I can afford my car, well i best be able to as iv just shelled out £710 for a top end rebuild

petrol is the main factor, if it keeps getting higher, its gonna be a !Removed! to not be able to bring it under boost everywhere i go

Other than that, Mods come as and when i have the money. Usualy something new every payday i like to think. :)

I afforded mine outright.... good thing about owning a newer car and going for an older one... but yeah.. no money left for Mods etc... *sigh.. just gotta save

NO!!! :P welli can really just have to only go out 3 times a week not 5!!!!

i can afford 2 outright..... but only really need the one for weekends

since im getting old now, i dont go out clubbing much anymore and spend the money i save on modding the car :)

i've often considered selling up and getting something else, but at the end of the day for the price, there is nothing as reliable, cheap to run, looks that nice and is as cheap to maintain as the mr2.

will be selling the white one very soon :)

...I think I've got one of the least visually modified cars here...

wouldnt have it if i couldnt!

but it does get more and more expensive!

been recently eyeing up the Stack website :!Removed!:

dont really go out that much anyway, would rather spend all my money on the car as its my hobby and the thing i enjoy and my life rotates around, better than peeing it up the wall ;)

Yes i can afford mine comfortably aswell :)

although i will have to make some sacrifices this month as my fiesta is up for mot, tax and insurance renewal all at the same time! doh!

Affording one is okay - trying to afford two cars is more tricky - but dont have anything unless i can afford it - i hate debt!

yeh i can easily afford mine as well, just that i tend to go on eBay a lot and have a girlfriend that thinks money grows on trees. Is it me or are all girls like that? lol

Posted

I can afford the car but the insurance is nearly as much as the car cost me :crybaby:

well, I can.. to an extent... afford my 2. :P

but i most deffinately HAVE sacrificed my shopping addiction. :P

I couldn't afford it if it was my everyday car. The mileage I do would kill the car and my wallet. I've spent a lot on it in a short period of time but I have now stopped for the time being as I could easily get myself into financial trouble (goes to hide credit card). I don't go out drinking, I don't smoke etc. so I spend the money on the car. As Rob said, it's a hobby.........my g/friend says it's an obsession. Right on both accounts! :D

At the moment I don't know for sure if I can afford to run a tubby. I think I will though. All my socialising money is being saved each month at the moment. Only 3 more pay days to go till i've got enough.

I'll be using her as a second car. i.e not driving her to work (17miles each way)

I'd rather spend my hard earned cash on something solid compared to p!ssing it up the wall every weekend.

Mine has been getting on the expensive side for petrol just recently - i reckon its time for a service - its just eating it! :(

Or ... it could be the fact that i cant help myself but go for it when i get a poncey car next to me revving its socks off

Tsk! Will have to control myself in future!

Guys and Gals, this thread is worrying me!

I find it crazy, the number of people who (give the impression at least) that they work a full week just to keep a 10year old + car on the road! I dont want anyone to think im exceptionally well off, but I live within my means. I dont look twice at filling the car up 2 time a week at £40 a go, spending £100 on a night out or enjoying myself. Way I see it is, I dont work hard all week just to exist. I work so that I can live, and spending all (or a considerable amount) of my money on what is effectively an old car is quite sad! :o

Being an enthusiast is one thing, but being a slave to a 12 year old car is just plain nuts. If you've got it then great, but I know i wont wanna be looking back when im old wishing i had 'done' more then spend everything I had on a car which was crushed years ago. Just my 2p

Having a car and loving it for some of us is a way of life not just a hobby

We live and breathe our cars- doesnt matter about the age - the older the better for me! lol :D

I cant speak for anybody else but im sure a lot feel the same as i do

I dont know what id do without my cars

I know that im very emotionally attached to my fiesta (first car) and im getting that way with the mr2 aswell

My friends dont understand it but i dont understand them spending £300 on one T-shirt just because its got gucci in tiny print on the label

Now as said above i can afford my cars and dont have to sacrifice that much to have them but im pretty sure no matter how much money i had that i would find a way to have it - regardless! :hokus-pokus:

Thinking about it i've "wasted" a fair bit of money on my 2, and previous cars, coulda easily got a deposit on the way towards a house or something, but at the end of the day im not bothered. At least i can say i did what I wanted to, and not have any regrets over it!

I find myself thinking about the car everytime I spend money... Bought a couple of t-shirts the other day and spent over 100 quid, first thought was on walking outa the store, "damn, shoulda put that towards the car, ah well!"! :P lol

Didnt need the t-shirts, but like i can't be bothered bout worrying over stuff, and fretting!

i see what your saying but i want to be able to look back when im older and say i had a proper fast car when i was 20 and i was a student, yeh i could run something more sensible like a quickish 306 but then the money id save would get wasted on attempting to pull on drunken nights out

In the last year or two...

I have [more or less] stopped drinking.

I have stopped smoking.

I have stopped going out (except for the odd meal or a bar for a quiet one).

I have stopped (not that i ever really started) modding the car.

I have stopped buying DVD's, CD's etc.

None of this is so i can afford my car...

This is all so i can buy a blooming house!

Yes thanks!

Love my car, love my beer, love my missus and my kids (not in that exact order obviously), and spend what ever I want on them all.

I'm not what anyone could call well off, but with carefull thought, ANYONE can afford to run a decent car and have all the nicities that go with it.
