Carina E 1.8 Gs (1997)

I acquired the above car the other day. Seems fine except for a loud whining noise which comes from the front of the car when you move off. It doesn't always happen. The noise lasts for only a few seconds and occurs when you are pulling away and as the cluth bites. The car had been lying for about three months and was not used.

Has anyone come across this before or have any suggestions ?

Sounds like a clutch release bearing...not a major issue, but annoying. You'll need to wait until the clutch goes, before getting it replaced. You need to remove the gearbox to get at it unfortunately...!
