Hks Filter And Squeaky Rear!

Hi all,

Im new to this forum, so a little background... I have owned a supra MKIV for the past 5 months. It is a red, non-turbo jap-import, with HKS induction and 18" alloys

There's a few things which I hope someone can help me with:

1) How much should I be paying for my HKS replacement filters (and where from)? My current one is looking rather black and non-yellow. After searching the web, the nearest I have found is US/Canada, quoting around £20 but the shipping I fear would take weeks. There was one place online in UK, but they were charging around £50 a piece... I'm sure there must be some cheaper ones out there.

2) There is a rather annoying squeak/rattle coming from the passenger-side rear. I have had the rubbers in the hatch replaced (like many recommend) but the noise is still there, and it sounds mostly when i go over bumps, so I'm suspecting something's up with the suspension. I wonder if there is a cheap fix I can try myself, or whether I should see a garage ASAP.

3) That leads me to my final question. Does anyone know a toyota garage in Middlesbrough or closest to?

Thanks! :D

Welcome :)

try the following places for replacement filters - www.fensport.co.uk, www.envyperformance.co.uk.

I used to have the HKS Superflow on my Celica GT4. When it got dirty i removed it and soaked it in the bath tub with some de-greaser. Looked brand new after ;)

As far as the squeek goes the best thing to do is get someone to drive your car over some bumps with you in the back and try to figure out where it is coming from. It could be all the tools/spare/foam bits in the boot or a loose interior panel. Also if you have aftermarket rear Speakers they usually do squeek as changing them upsets the plastic they sit in and also aftermarket Speakers are a different weight/size usually.

go to www.yell.co.uk and do a search for garages in your area. You should be able to find your most local Toyota Dealer

Thanks for the prompt response Leeky!

www.envyperformance.co.uk

turned out just fine! Replacement filters at £20 (woot!)

Thanks for the advice. I've already removed all the components from the boot, and the Speakers are stock. I suspect it's something around the wheel area. I think I just need listen a few more times to determine the source.

Couple of nooby questions to add:

Which de-greaser would u recommend for cleaning the HKS filter?

Also, there are two sizes for the HKS filter. 150mm and 200mm. I take it these sizes refer to the radius?

Thanksies in advance!

The going rate for the larger HKS filter (the size you will need) is £20 My other half bought one at JAE. There are a whole range of different colours you can choose from...

As for cleaning them, and degreaser should work, Halfords own brand degreaser, or some stuff I use called "hyperclean".

You will even find plain simple petrol will clean it up.

As for the tailgate squeak.. try just as an expriment soreying everything runner about the tailgate in a thick layer of back to black and take the car fora drive... it sorted mine!

Thanks for the advice Karma. I'm a little confused about the HKS filter size, because i just measured mine, and the radius is 150mm which means that I should use the smaller one :/

Ive listened to the squeaks/grinds a lot more carefully now, and it sounds like plastic grinding. The rear bumper has been modded (I can tell by the slight difference in shade of red) so that's the next place I think I will investigate next...
