Warranty Problems!

Basically I took my '54 plate T Sport back to my local Toyota garage for the following problems and the response I got for each "fault" was:

1) Smelly cutch - NO FAULTS FOUND

2) Rear Speakers not working - WHOEVER OWNED THE CAR BEFORE ME OBVIOUSLY FITTED AN AFTERMARKET HEADUNIT AND THE WIRING LOOM WAS CUT INSTEAD OF USING A CONNECTOR BLOCK :censor: OBVIOUSLY THEY WON'T GO NEAR IT NOW!

3) Auto window switch not working - MYSTERIOUSLY STARTED WORKING AGAIN THE MORNING I DROPPED IT OFF

4) VSC/TC/Engine Management lights staying on - I REMOVED MY K&N INDUCTION KIT BEFORE I TOOK THE CAR IN BUT THEY'VE TWIGGED THE FACT THAT THE LIGHTS ARE ON BECAUSE OF MODIFICATIONS TO THE AIRBOX! :(

5) Buzzing sound from behind the headunit - NO FAULT FOUND AND BECAUSE OF THE FACT SOMEONE HAD FIDDLED WITH THE UNIT BEFORE, THEY ARE UNWILLING TO INVESTIGATE FURTHER :ffs:

6) Gap between the headunit trim and the dash - THIS WILL BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND WILL BE REPAIRED

7) Lights dimming when pulling off from standing start - NO PROBLEM FOUND (NOTHING DONE ABOUT IT)

8) Rattle from clutch problem when pulling off from standing start - WILL ROAD TEST THE CAR BUT NO PROBLEM FOUND SO FAR! (WILL PROBABLY DO NOTHING ABOUT IT EITHER)

This has stirred up more problems than I started with!!! Right, the dilemma I'm in is that I have to pick the car up from Toyota tomorrow and take it to the independent dealer I bought it from and they will have to sort the car out as I acted dumb about the 'airbox modifications' and claim that this was how I got the car. Toyota also said the wiring near the airbox was altered somehow and the only thing I can think off is a heavy duty red wire running from the +ve Battery terminal through to the bulkhead of the car (this was probably for an amp I'd say). If the independent garage puts these problems right, will I have future warranty problems? Obviously they'll have to take it to a Toyota garage themselves to get the headunit wiring loom corrected right???

Can they reset the ECU to not show up the problem regarding the induction kit? Is this simply done by disconnecting the Battery??? I can't understand why this causes the dash warning lights to come on though??? Does this mean I won't be able to use the induction kit without the TRC/VSC lights coming on in future????

Hope someone can shed some light on the matter

for some stranger reason i just knew you gonna have problem with toyota dealer's

did you goto edgware toyota if you did unlucky they are terrible.

1) Smelly cutch - NO FAULTS FOUND

they didn't even bother to check it,this is a problem i dare to say on all cts's.

2) Rear Speakers not working - WHOEVER OWNED THE CAR BEFORE ME OBVIOUSLY FITTED AN AFTERMARKET HEADUNIT AND THE WIRING LOOM WAS CUT INSTEAD OF USING A CONNECTOR BLOCK OBVIOUSLY THEY WON'T GO NEAR IT NOW!

easy problem to fixed youself next time you in another toyota dealers dont mention this.

3) Auto window switch not working - MYSTERIOUSLY STARTED WORKING AGAIN THE MORNING I DROPPED IT OFF

one problem solve itself  i would recomend you check the connector of the switch

4) VSC/TC/Engine Management lights staying on - I REMOVED MY K&N INDUCTION KIT BEFORE I TOOK THE CAR IN BUT THEY'VE TWIGGED THE FACT THAT THE LIGHTS ARE ON BECAUSE OF MODIFICATIONS TO THE AIRBOX!

have you make modifcation to the airbox ? if you have that you should of ask if anyone on here(or me) could help and let you borrow there airbox for a day.

i really dont understand some of you,if you want more air then get a panel filter till you upgrade to induction, why mess around with the airbox????

5) Buzzing sound from behind the headunit - NO FAULT FOUND AND BECAUSE OF THE FACT SOMEONE HAD FIDDLED WITH THE UNIT BEFORE, THEY ARE UNWILLING TO INVESTIGATE FURTHER

did you go in with a aftermarket headunit if you didn't than they are just being silly

6) Gap between the headunit trim and the dash - THIS WILL BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND WILL BE REPAIRED

they lost me there if they wont fixed the buzz sound behind the headunit why are they gonna to fixed the gap between the headunit trim.

7) Lights dimming when pulling off from standing start - NO PROBLEM FOUND (NOTHING DONE ABOUT IT)

they dont know much about the car and to lazy to find out from toyota GB, this is another well know problem.

8) Rattle from clutch problem when pulling off from standing start - WILL ROAD TEST THE CAR BUT NO PROBLEM FOUND SO FAR! (WILL PROBABLY DO NOTHING ABOUT IT EITHER)

once again they know nothing about cts's,when you say rattle can you feel anything or is it a sound?

no dilemma at all i will pm a name of a toyota dealer ,he will fixed your dimmer lights, smelly clutch, VSC/TC/Engine Management lights but of course you have to borrow my airbox so he wont know you mess around with it,Rattle from clutch problem when pulling off from standing start you may get a new clutch and all will be under warranty from toyota GB :P

you rear speak wire's are easy to do,you can this yourself make sure you connect it all up before you take it in toyota again if you want your warranty for all you dash problem,if dont know how bring it to me i sort it for you.

Thanks a million for your comments!!! Very helpful!

All I can say in my defence on the above fault is that I didn't actually do any modifications to the airbox itself. I installed the K&N Typhoon Induction Kit as per their instructions and simply reversed the process before taking the car back to Toyota with the OEM setup. They must have been able to tell from the ECU that something in the car's induction caused the car's VSC/EM/TRC lights to come on  Well, I just acted stupid and said that's how I bought the car and just sounded very cheesed off over the phone to the Service Manager!

As for the headunit... yeah it's the standard headunit and I can't understand why they'll fix the gap, but not the buzzing sound!!! I don't think the speaker wires will be easy to fix if they are cut? Surely if they've been cut and are just crimped back together, then if anyone from Toyota had to go rooting around in there again in the future, they'd notice straight away???

8) Rattle from clutch problem when pulling off from standing start - WILL ROAD TEST THE CAR BUT NO PROBLEM FOUND SO FAR! (WILL PROBABLY DO NOTHING ABOUT IT EITHER)

once again lazy nob's know fork all about cts's,when you say rattle can you feel anything or is it a sound?

It is indeed a sound but you also do feel a slight rattle in the pedal. I also told them I've read up on all the faults I reported to them and that they are known problems but the guy just discounted my 'theories'!!! :ffs:

What will happen now is I'll take the car back to the garage I bought it from, who have agreed to sort the car out (warning lights and headunit wiring... hopefully!) and if you could PM that Toyota dealer's address that you know to me, then that'd be greatly appreciated 'cos I can deal with them in future! Unfortunately it is indeed Jemca Toyota on Edgware Road I have to deal with at present :cacker:

hi,

ive had all these faults too, and my dealer telling me the same answers as you got. i puffed and panted about it for a few months and now they have sorted it.

for now..

if your gonna mod your car and remove the parts for standard ,for warranty work, i would not show pics of it on this web site as toyota dealers view this site and could work it out somehow.... just a thought.. ;)

has anyone ever had an independent report done by the AA or someone when they have these faults to prove toyota wrong?

ok i pm you please go read

back to your car's problem there is no way toyota can invaild your warranty to fixed the dimmer light or the clutch, the airfiler does not affect either of these parts.

your stereo and speaker problem is not a big problem have a go yourself it is not that complicated, once again if you not sure bring your car to me i will sort out the speaker wire for you(i might sound like a big head now :P ) i think i am a expert at ripping out the crappy toyota stereo and the inside layout behind the stereo IF you are havering a buzzing sound form behind stereo i am pretty sure i will find it unless is not coming from there.

now your ecu could be tricky you will need to borrow a airbox but still not a big problem i mean i am guessing it will cost about 70 pounds to get it reset, now if you have to pay money to get this done then make sure you put your k&n back on before you have it done, since you are paying and they wont cover you under warranty it wont matter.

you can show your car off to everyone just black out the number plate with window paint first or any other software.

reason i dont post the photo of my car cos i dont want anyone to copy me :P only joking :D :D i just cant bother to wash the car just to take some photo's

bert.tsport i had a independent report done but cant go in any detail yet ,my car will be in for warranty soon so i have to keep it zip for now.

Thank you Twincam.GTi

No probs credit due, where credit due

One thing I will say though...try not to use abriviated swear (I think you know what I mean  ) words as it may annoy moderators as this site does try to be run as a 'Family' viewable forum (although I do realise some Toyota dealers are enough to make people swear  ).

Hope you didn't mind that point.

Keep up the good work

Well I collected the car from Toyota this morning and have the following to report:

1 year/10,000 mile service completed - £127.21

Front and rear disks skimmed and hubs cleaned up and sprayed with zinc spray as they were rusty looking.

VSC/EM/TRC lights reset due to 'oil' in the VSC sensor (I think!)

Nothing done with dimming headlights, rattle from clutch pedal or smelly clutch. They claim to have done a road test and found no faults - by the way, the car had 4,588 miles when I gave it to them and 4,589 when I got it back so somehow I don't think so!!!

Supposedly the trim gap between the headunit and dash was fixed but it's no better now! :censor: Instead they tried to lever the headunit upwards towards the dash top resulting in the carbon fibre effect trim being butchered with a screwdriver!!!!!!!!!! :ffs: They now have to replace this when they get the dash trim in stock but refuse to account for the screwdriver scratches on the little storage flap below the aircon controls!!!! W@*!$rs! I will not accept any less than all the trim they damaged being replaced as it was obviously a careless technician wielding his screwdriver!!!

At least the buzzing sound has gone from behind the headunit as a result of the above work...

So, the car is now with the garage I bought it from originally to rectify the headunit wiring/rear Speakers problem and I've been told that as long as this is done professionally it won't affect my Toyota warranty ^_^ At least something went right today! And they better fill my petrol tank up for making me take the car to them and missing half a day of work!

Anyway, I'll keep everyone posted when I get the car back to it's original unblemished state lol!!!

i was worry it might be your k&n cos i am thinking about getting one myself so this come as good news for me

how can they road test dimming headlights in day time :o

you can either have it out with the manager(who is about 5foot nothing :D if i remember correctly ) make him check with toyota GB,just tell him the dimmer light's happen at night time and you are driving along all the sudden ALL the lights dim and it stay dim and you find this extremly dangerous, see what he have to say.

all they need to do is update your ecu they are just so lazy if they are going to fixed it make sure you bring all three of your keys they will need to reprogram it or you can simply take it to or find other toyota dealership who will listen to you like the dealer i given you.

any clutch problem with a car only use 4,588 miles on the clock are without doult a warranty issue.

From my own experience of ripping out the toyota stereo unit with me eyes close i dont use any tools unless i am taking out the four 10mm screw's and that will be with socker not a screwdriver now i am not taking there side, but if they rasie the stereo upward to cover the gap (please trust me it is the only way to fixed this cos it is a design fault)if you already had these marks on there then you will notice more after they did that .

nevermind the facts are Jemca Toyota (edgware) is a one big disappointment people should stay clear of this place.

in the end of the day you are the customer, if you are not happy you have every right to make a complain there and then till the matter been reslove to your satisfactory.

hi,

when i had my ecu changed they only had one set of my keys... maybe someting to do with my security light flashing when engine is running? hey? its going in tomorrow to my new dealer so will give them all keys...

as for dash scratches around climate control button area, they did that to mine at my old dealers the other week when they changed the ecu... iv had that much bother i just cant be asked to take it back to get it changed for some small scratches, you can only see them from certain angles , but they are there. i cant talk to them anymore as i feel i will kick off, and then i will be in BIG trouble! i cant write what i would really like to do, but its not hard to work out.

hope my new dealers performs better!!!!

does the head unit need to be removed to replace ecu? i bet the head unit itself scratched it ,when they have rested it there maybe? AHHHHHH , MUPPETS...

NO RESPECT FOR CUSTOMERS AND THEIR VEHICLES.....

Exactly my thoughts!!!!

There was absolutely not a mark on the interior trim before I left the car in, and the mark is a gouge from a screw driver and the scratches are from a sharp object.....

Anyway.... Jemca Edgware rang me yesterday evening to arrange a date to have the whole trim replaced, obviously realising their mistake.... and also realising most probably that, between myself and my brother we've spent well over £1k there in the last 2 years on parts and servicing for various cars!!!! (My Glanza V & Corolla GXi and his two Corolla G6s :group-cuddles: )

hi,

my car was collected today by my new dealers i am using... on time as advised. and returned on time. also very clean and even had shinny stuff sprayed on the tyres! thats more like it...

they have located the fault with the security light flashing and say it needs another ecu. my old dealer just fitted new ecu, but apparently the ecu for the alarm is up the spout now... 2 ecu s ? one for engine, one for alarm.. now this is getting complicated... iv been assured that the car security is ok though and its working correctly ,so no need to worry about it getting stolen easily...

anyway , its on order and they collect car in a week from my work again. fingers crossed they sort it, they have not been open many weeks but they seem to be trying to impress me with their service. which is good. :)

Good result then Bert! My local Toyota dealer wouldn't give me a courtesy car or collect mine from home or work so looks like you've got a good dealer there!

As for my car... LOL! The garage I bought it from have now taken it to a Toyota dealer themselves to sort out the headunit problems!!! Result!

Guys - I had loads and loads and LOADS of problems with my Celica T-Sport over the last 3 or 4 months since purchase. It was an ex-demo w/5k on clock when I bought it, now w/14k. It's been in and out of the dealership more times than I care to remember and had many of the problems you're talking about.

The only way to get through to them is to write (don't expect a response though), copy the letter to Toyota GB after you've phoned them with a case reference number and also copy it to your Hire Purchase Finance Company, if you bought it on HP - they're very interested to hear of problems.

Funny how once the big boys are involved that things get sorted, very quickly indeed!!!!

Good luck with it all!!
