Burning Smell

Hello

My 99 Avensis has recently started giving off a smell like burnt fireworks whenever i go over 60mph. This can be smelled in the car with the windows shut and also outside although there is no visible sign of smoke. The smell dissapears again after I drop below 60. Any ideas about what it is. Thanks.

Once I have had the same problem on my Golf 1.6 (I don't own it anymore). It smelled like you said for about 1 month and then one cilinder stopped responding. I took it to the dealer and the have changed the coil of that cilinder because it burned out. After repare angine was ok, smelled bad for about two more weeks and then the smell has gone. The problem has never came back.
