Ae92 Cv Joint Problem

Hi guys,

I have a AE92 GL, which has been a good runner and got me through 3 years at uni. However its now in need of an outer CV joint on the passenger side.

I have the new joint and boot kit, however after removing the shocker nuts, the centre nut etc and dropping the joint out, I can't get it off. I have looked all over for a retaining sirclip but can't find one. I have been told that there may be a retaining ring inside the joint, however Im a bit dubious about whacking the joint with a hammer to get it off, plus Im also worried about pulling the inner joint out causing a mess and possibly damaging the oil seals.

Does anyone have an easy way of doing this job? Im at the point of taking it to a garage for someone else to sort it! Which is a shame because Im gettin greally professional at pulling the hub apart now!

:ffs:

Thanks in advance

A very frustrated, Dan.

best bet is pull the shaft carefully from the box, placing a container underneath to catch any spilled gearoil. put the shaft in a vise and give it a good whack with a large hammer.it should then come off. refitting is reverce of removal. dont forget to top up the gear oil should only loose about 1/2 to 1ltr

Brilliant, thanks dawesy. If Im only going to lose a bit of oil then yeah sounds like the best plan. I was worried about making a mess!

Thanks very much for the help. Now where's that lump hammer? :)
