Hi folks,

just a quick intro

had loads of cars crap and good, used to have a toyota startlet sr, had loads of cars since, recently wrote off a ford ka and when the insurer paid out i began the search and decided i needed a toyota again. I bought a 96 paseo st with full toyota history for a very good price.

I'm ready to do its first service in my ownership and i'm struggling to get service instructions. Can anyone help. Haynes dont do a manual yet.

Anyone got something like a service manual they can sell me?

Cheers

Will

Firstly welcome to the club

What do you need to know for the servicing as they are quite straight forward to work on, I doubt you'll need a manual unless undertaking an engine strip down etc

Actually not too bad on engines and did an oil change and air flter change this morning.

It was real easy.

Just wondering stuff like Cam belt changes?

I was told yesterday by my local parts shop that the plugs are same as used on a carina e?

He quoted £8 each which seems alot?

Checked the plugs and they are a nice biscuit colour but not sure if the electrode is warn much cause i have no idea what the plug gap is supposed to be?

Any things i should look out for on the car? Any parts that go wrong regularly?

I was wondering too, on idol the car hunts a little (as in revs change a little) I think it might be due to the 2.5" pipe on it. Maybe the fuelling isn't quite right now?

Its a completely standard car just with wheels and exhaust so i'm hoping it is only the pipe and nothing to worry about?

Cheers guys

Thanks for the welcome

Top of the list of things to go wrong, I'd say rar shocks leaking. You may also find a clunking noise coming from them, this is due to a bad design on the strut mount where the central sleeve is just bonded in but it can be fixed by just putting a repair washer either side of the mount which stops the sleeve from moving

As for the plugs, sounds about right if he quoted you on platinum ones, I'd recommend NGK as they never seem to cause any probs and should be good for 50k
