Kangaroo!

My Astra did this and it was due to the air flow. The air flow meter was cleaned and the pipes replaced and this helped it no end but it was still there slightly but that was due to having high lift cams

I think it is a trait of Celica's cos mine does it a bit at slow speeds.

I haven't noticed mine do it for months, personally I was putting it down to something to do with airflow as it only ever happens when it is warm and I've been sitting in traffic.

This thread was started in August and at that time it had been bugging me for a couple of months but then stopped shortly afterwards.

What about the rest of you?? Has it reduced over winter?

I am 100% sure it is not an engine issue as the motor is very smooth. it feels alot like a problem with the transmision, clutch or engine mountings. Which reminds me... I had the kangaroo problem when I had a '97 Escort s.i., but only when the air-con was on. The revs just wouldn't fall off gently with the air-con running. It was roo-tastic... wallaby-mongous... a shudder-fest.

I *do* get a shudder through the steering wheel in the Celica when letting the clutch out at lows revs in 1st, but I can live with it.

That's something on the aircon which causes that, I can't remember exactly what it was a release bearing or something like that on the aircon, had that problem on a Volvo, cured it easily by turning the aircon off and leaving it off!

Just to update on this - does everyone still get the kangaroo problem??

I haven't had it since about September and it started in July, so I'm 99% sure in my case it's affected by heat - it only happened when I was going slow and had been for a while.

Anybody else noticed the same?

Yeah mine still does it, mainly in 2nd gear. Might take it to Mr T when i get paid, as its doing my nutt in.

Especially when i have to sit in slow traffic on the way to work.

Mine is only in 1st gear and only every now and again but I will keep an eye out for whether its when its hot or cold.

In a year mine has never done this - don't know if has to do with the low mileage?

Basically its not something that mine does when its hot and to be honest its only near biting point it ever does do it. Id say its just a traight of the car. I can make my car do it but I can also drive it without ever experiencing roo'ing but its not the clutch as some people have said as mine is spanking with less than 1000miles on it!

Sort of - Firstly mine never did it again (it had done it for a couple of months - then if you read my posts I posted that it hadn't happened again - well it never happened again. So I kind of sorted it - just don't know what I did!

And I made sure I'd never get the problem again by selling the vehicle 6 months ago!

Seriously trying to think of anything I did which may have fixed it:

Battery Died when I went on holiday - came back to a more than flat Battery - which may have reset something

Cleaned Air Filter - never got round to getting a new one

I also cleaned the throttle butterfly at some point which may have helped.

Can't think of anything else which I did that would be related but I can confirm it never did it again

Mine does it to, always has. Its only in 1st gear that it does it and its only under 1500rpm when youre at that annoying speed in traffic. I would have to say it appears to be normal as my engine mounts are only 2 years old.
