What Engine & Gearbox Oil?

Recommended Posts

Posted

I'm just servicing my car and just wanted to know what oil to use in the motor and gear box. I'm not fussed on make just the thickness and semi or fully synthetic. Also what plugs to use? I will be runnning higher boost w/ de cat pipe so i'm guessing a colder plug is needed, can anyone give me the plug code.

Thanks in advance

this is what i run... Mobil 1 fully synth 10w30, bkr7e plugs (6097) with oem wires, and penzoil synchromesh.. or u can substitute the synchromesh with some redline fluid.

ok, that depends on the tranny u have. the s54 tranny (n/a) takes about 2.7 quarts. the e153 (turbo) takes about 4.4 quarts. anything more and u risk blowing internal seals. u wont be able to overfill because there will be some spill out from the tranny fill hole. just fill until it starts to come out while the car is level.

While this topics here, how do you fill the gearbox with oil ? Is it a take it out jobbo ?

i have no idea.

there are two bolts on the tranny. both use a 24mm socket. u just simply unbolt the bottom one, which is on the left side, and let it drain. then when its time to fill, plug that and unbolt the filler plug which is on the front of the tranny and fill up. make sure the car is level when you fill.
