Lots of mail regard warped discs what is the best answer. Skimming or new discs and pads. Also what is the best pads to use. Toyota pads seem to last forever but are they the cause of heat build up?

It always depends on the way car is being driven. Disks and pads, installed by Toyota are excelent for average driving, and what is most important, as soon as you hit the road they are 100% functional.

Now, there are drivings and drivings. Let's imagine somebody who is agressive or very agressive driver, and likes to do urban drive. That one will accelerate on short distance straight part of the road and then strongly or fully brake down to do a curve or enter the round-belt. In that case front pads would heat-up very fast and not only them, as disks and breaking fluid as well. When disks and breaking fluid heat up too much, you have whole circuit too hot (pads, disks, fluid). Next step is making a damage. First damage is warped disk, second is fluid less eficient each time after overheat, third is rupture on the disk that maight cause wheel block sometimes or breaks failure.

So, it's not something to joke with.

I've just checked few days ago serial of emergency vehicles (VW Passat's, TDI 2004). They all have the same problem, warped disks. They do emergency service mostly inside urban areas. For example, one of them is right now at the dealer changing barke pads and disks for 3rd time. Car has 25000 miles.

There is solution, usualy used on race cars. There is huge variety of disks and pads for each type of driving. But, if you go for high temperature resistant pads, they won't work well while cold. So you need to heat them up first. But this is extreme example, for extreme driving. Weight of car is also to be considered.

Conclusion: Everything depends on the way somebody drives. Each car manufacturer installs disks and pads for average driving. If you do something else then average, consult specialists for race and extreme driving. They will surely give the best advice.

For example, check this site where you can choose disks and pads by each car model and year of production:

toyota have a problem with the old avensis shape model ie pre 2003 the pads and discs do not remove the heat thus warping of the discs

this is why so many have had skimming of the discs this is not a fix but a temp repair ie problem will re occur

toyota are aware and i have been informed that drilled discs stop the heat build up and thus warping

also better pads ie uprated are a better bet

warping has been a problem for 10 yrs

come on toyota get a fix some say its the pad compound ???
