Front Fog Lights

I have just had the two front fog lights on my 2 year old Avensis changed under warranty. Moisture had got into both lamps.

Within a few hours of getting the car from the dealer the newly fitted drivers fog light had misted up and was full of moisture.

My son has an Avensis and has not had this problem. The new fog light is to be changed again in a day or so. This job is going down as a faulty part.

Has any other Avensis owner had this problem? The fog lamps are supposed to be sealed units according to the dealer.

Generally speaking, lamp units aren't sealed because this can cause steaming if there is moisture trapped inside.

Most light fittings have a little breather hole to allow the moisture to dry which prevents this problem.

Not sure about the fog lamps on this car though.

A neighbour of mine has new model avensis and had same problem with fog lights (both) with moisture getting in. Both were replaced under warranty and he has had no problems since.

Today Aug 24th the dealer fitted the 4th fog light to the drivers side. Within 15mins of driving home it had misted up inside. They have ordered yet another light. It is a real pain having to keep going back and wait around for the job to be done. The dealer is doing his best and says the lights should not mist up as they are sealed units and if they do get moisture in them they are faulty. I go back again 2 days time let us hope it is a good lamp they fit this time. I will let you know the outcome.

Are they allowing them to dry out before fitting the lamp holder?

They can't be sealed units, because when you fit the bulb you are letting moisture into them due to the fact that they are open to air.

All lights normally have a vent of some sort. If it's sealed, I cant see how it wouldn't steam up really.

sjrainsford what you say makes sense. My sons Avensis does not have the problem and it is only the fog light on the drivers side that is misting up on my car. The dealer and his techies say it should not do it and they have promised to sort it out. They are on to Toyota about it they informed me yesterday.

Just phoned the dealer it will be over aweek now before I get the new fog light as Toyota have not replied and the fog light will not be here till next week. They still maintain if there is moisture in the lamp it is faulty.

I hope they can sort everything out. It seems like a lot of hassle just for fog lamps!
