Mpgs Against Varying Driving Speed?

Hi everyone,

I used to drive a Carina to work. I just bought a Yaris diesel T Spirit, hoping to bring my long distance commuting cost down.

For Carina, there is some data showing mpgs at different driving speed (I remember the top mpg can be reached when driving speed is 57mph). But I could not find any data as such for my Yaris, apart from “53.3 MPG-Urban”, “74.3 MPG-Extra Urban” and “64.2 MPG-combined”.

I was wondering if there is any data or diagram showing specific MPGs against varying driving speed for Yaris diesel T Spirit. Many thanks in advance.

The Yaris will show you the data you are looking for itself.. set the computer to show your current mpg in your current driving conditions.... when you press the accelerator down, the number will decrease, when you ease off the accelerator, the number will increase. this will show you the mpg at every speed and every rev range possible... when you get the data you need from YOUR car (say at 57mph in top gear).. post them in here and ask others if they can compare THEIR data with yours

or you can set it to an average mpg, and just reset everynow and then to see how it changes!

Im currently getting 47.2MPG onthe computer. Thats over 300 miles on the same tank of fuel, still got 2 bars left :P

I'm averaging 45.2mpg at the mo and last tank of fuel lasted 353 miles - the computer is what I use to rely on it, also now I dont accelerate hard and change gears early so the engine works as best as possible.

Definately a cheap car to run, I do a 12 mile each way journey for work 4 days a week - she's nearly 6 months old but under the 5000 miles mark so just under the average mileage for her age too.

mine varies, when i was going up to blackpool i was getting great mpg think i got around 350-70 miles to the tank

at the mo however i think its down to 29 worst ive ever had haha

Well in my 1.3 all I ever get is 44.1mpg no matter how I drive it?

But i'll do the 57mph thing and let you know, as it would be good to compare it to other cars and see if my car needs looking after more or something :P

I just went back during my lunch break, to check the car manual and found, unfortunately, there is only "average speed" available for my DIESEL Yaris, the dynamic MPG etc is only available to petrol engine.

I am a bit surprised Toyota did not give a reasonable explanation for this big DIFFERENCE in the manual :!Removed!: .

Anybody got any idea about DIESEL car mpg distribution against varying speed etc?

Reset it mate, get it on your average mpg and hold the button in (the one that got you there) and it will reset it back to 0!

It depends where you drive as well, like I rarely do motorway driving, which should be the most economical as your at a constant speed in 5th gear, so my fuel consumption is probably quite high as I do short journeys to work in varying gears, so I only have to fill up once a month but I probably use more petrol than someone doing a lot of motorway driving....

well i hit my lowest yet at lunch today, 24 back up to 33 at the mo tho

The highest ive had so far is 50.9 which is damn good, but usually she is around the 45 mark! which is okay i guess!

well i just hit 400 miles on this tank and the fuel light come on, taking it to the last bar has gone. It wasnt either a full tank £30 at 89.9 :P grannies will be over taking me :D

48.9 is current average MPG

It was 49.9 MPG but a recent high speed trip knocked it back a bit

Be good to see double figures in that :D but at least it does it very quickly and in style

my mrs used get a very consisitent 40mpg driving an A road from hull to york everyday for about a year in her tsport. i used get about 23mpg from my s2000 and that was driving conservatively with optimax aswell.

my current bmw 530 is not much better about 25mpg but i think its getting better with the 97 ron stuff i get at sainsbury's, only 92p per litre for super unleaded which i think is good.

Does anyone notice any difference between 95 and 97/98 ron for fuel economy?

ive had 35 when ive reset it for a long journey but used to get 23 mpg now improved to 26
