Im thinking about making my own LED rear lights but am unsure about the fog light.

Does it have to be a certain brightness or does it just have to be a seperate red light?

Also, can the brake lights be the same brightness as the normal rear lights? aslong as there are more that light up.

Thanks for any help.

no idea.

BUT............there are people in the Sera community using LED foglights. What you need to remember is that if it passes an MOT then that's only half the battle with these. The other half is whether the cars behind you can actually see the light on a foggy day.

I would have thought that brake lights would have to be noticeably brighter than rear lights, again for safety issues rather than legal ones.

LED technology is pretty advanced ........... I think you'll be impressed by just how bright you can get the lights to shine without too much effort.

Good luck with the project. PM me if you need any advice - work with LEDs and electronics for a living.

Ok thanks. Im thinking of using 3mm leds for the rear lights then brighter 5mm ones for the brakes, just unsure of the fog, dont really want a seperate unit stuck at the bottom of my bumper! lol

You'd probably be better off using 5mm LEDs all round. They are cheaper and better than the 3mm ones and give off more light. You can tune the brightness of each set with inline resistors.

any plastics company will be able to help - but "perspex" is quite expensive. Note that there are lots of different types of clear plastics which get called "perspex". Can be quite expensive, especially for the scratch resistant stuff.
