here's one for ya.....

not a big thing but still annoying

the digital clock on my dash is going wonky......

it fades in and out all the time, not a flickering but just goes blank and then comes back fully lit up, and no, its not when i turn on the lights.......

there dosen't seem to be any pattern to it like distance travelled.......

then on other days it works fine.....

any thoughts? or has this happened to anybody else

Might be a bad connection mate take it out and have a look.

Could be a loose connection inside. take to pieces and have a look.

to do so, put a screwdriver down the side and lever it out, should just pop out, disconnect the wires in the back. Now take the back panel off it, just undo the 4 clips its a bit fiddley but should be easy enough. Now the clock and buttons should come out, just check them over to see if anything does seem abit sus, then give em a blow to get any dust off and put it all back together in the reverse order.

Try that see if its any better.

I think it might be the connection from your lighting loom to the clock as when you switch the lights on the clock dims etc.

How easy was it to change out the stereo?

It looks like the facia plate of a newer type needs to fit behind the plastic trim.

Did you have any problems?

It's a TOYOTA branded radio cassette. The FM radio goes from 77-88MHz.That means I can pick up diddly squat in Ireland- except for maybe some whale song ... :P

I had to look out some CASSETTES(from the 80s!!!!) to keep myself occupied on the 60 mile roundtrip to work  ...but it is a full logic deck.APSS etc.

Who can tell me what that means! ( I know-cause I'm old n grey)...just get me zimmer frame..small boys...jumpers for goalposts.... solid rubber tyres..

just as you said richie ..... thanks

cynos_boy - get yourself a band expander and fiddle around to get stations, i think you have to add 18 to the number displayed such as today fm will be at 83mhz on your display instead of 100 - 102mhz.... it's not ideal but i just wanted to keep the mini-disc player although the cd player seems to have gone belly up, time bof a new mp3 player.

anybody fitted a new stereo lately??

what did you do with the big gaping hole left by the double head unit when you put in a single head unit..

filler pieces anybody

Well I don't think I'll bother with a band expander......

Gone all out and bought some Alpine comps for the front, Alpine co-axials for the empty holes in the rear and a JVC headunit/with Toyota harness as below...

1 x SXE-1350S - 13cm components

1 x SXE-1325S - 13cm Speakers

1 x KD-LH811 - CD/MP3 PLAYER

All For less than €350

Got them alll from here.Clicky

Cheaper than I can get them anywhere in Ireland

Have used them before and found them to be great.

Now all I have to do is brush up on my fibreglassing skills- non existent- for my wee bootbuild project....Infinity amp/10 " subwoofer/ 1F cap...

"She canna take much more o' this captain!"

Here is a pic of what my oem headunit looks like.Single DIN with a 'pocket'

img04019dr.th.jpg

Remove the facia and extract the cage assembly by removing the securing screws..img04051fg.th.jpg

replace using single DIN unit and....

FP-11-01..autoleadsfp1101tw240th1202wc.jpg

You can buy this from any autoleads supplier for ~£25  (same place as the clicky above)
