Hill Starts...

Welcome to TOC! Congrats on your new Yaris.

I had a Punto as a hire car once - I found the clutch was very.... errr, well I cant describe it really but probably spongey is a good word?

Anyway, I always remember having a problem with hill starts and clutch control myself, but you do get the hand of it eventually! Just takes time and a bit of practice!

I got the hang of hill-starts very quickly actually, and I use the handbrake for them too all the time unless I am able to stop, put her into first and catch her on the bite quick enough for moving away again immediately.

My instructor took me to a quiet up-hill place and made me move off again and again until I got it. When I get to the 2nd barrier for inserting my permit in the multi-storey special floor for work I have to do a big hill start, handbrake on, revs and bring up the bite until I feel the car begin to "pull" away from the handbrake, well she doesn't actually pull so much she moves but you can feel her wanting to move (if that makes sense), release handbrake and then off she goes - altho do be careful to not raise the clutch too much as otherwise it'll shoot off when you do release the handbrake  which can be a bit of a shock when you dont expect it!
