1991 Mr2 - Parts Car? Or Swap Motors?

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Hey guys, I'm picking up a 1991 or 1992 white MR2, 5spd, t-tops, blue interior, with mint condition body panels. Only problem is that it's non-turbo... Is it a pain to do the turbo motor swap?

What am I looking at price wise? Is it worth it?

Let me know what you think.

thanks,

Ben

Hi there mate.

The tubby engine will cost upwards of a grand dependign on which model you go for, and labour is just under that usually. Although there may be someone who will undertake the labour cheaper.

I was just about to link you to Rogue Systems but it seems that they havent updated their new site for transplants. i think the prices were 2.5G for a rev3 tubby engine with all the bits and bobs you'd need, and 1G for labour, both w/o vat.

If you havent bought the car yet i'd suggest to leave it, and buy an actual tubby, it'l work out cheaper imho. Plus insurance companies usually charge more for turbo conversions than on a tubby itself!
