Missing Model Code/number

Just got a nice little convertible Gen5 2.0 GTi 4WS import in black - low mileage and great condition for 1990. Just needs a few things fixed up.

Took it to local exhaust garage to replace middle and rear section - joints were shot. So they got parts locally and said could fix on the spot. Went away for an hour and returned to find - they hadn't fixed it, because the exhaust was slightly wrong.

Had to drive home with half an exhaust while the garage tried to source an import exhaust. Few days later returned for them to try again - new one didn't fit either.

Turns out they need the exact model number from the car - the VIN wont do. So checking the bulkhead - appears to be no plate with the model number on it. The VIN is stamped into the painted bulkhead itself, but no model number.

So how can I translate the VIN into the model code. Is there a resource out there to search. Is there someone at Toyota who can help. Or perhaps a member here?!

Thanks for your help.

Richard.

IIRC the model should be a ST182

but personally i went to a place that can make their own exhausts, that way it will always fit as they make it the way you want it, and they are made from stainless steel so wont rust in our weather ;)
