New Avensis Gear Stick Surround Query

Hi there

I've had the new shape avensis for about 6 weeks now. Today I noticed that the leather padding around the gearstick is quite loose. You can slide it down and see the actual metal stem on the gearstick. Is this normal or should it be attached to the gearstick just under the knob?

Ok, I've just gone to my garage to check how it is in mine. Mine is 7 months old.

Leather padding shouldn't slide down in any car. Here is the way it is attached in Avensis:

On the top of the leather padding there is one chrome ring that you can see from the outside. Look on the bottom of the leather and you'll see chrome surrounding. The ring on the top looks the same. I removed the knob (just unscrew it) to see how the ring is attached. The ring is attached to the leather, but not to the stick. The stick has the other FIXED RING. So, chrome ring that is on the leather just sits on the top of the fixed ring that is on the stick, the way you can remove the leather padding pulling it up, but it doesn't go down. So, here you're missing eather the chrome ring attached to the leather, or the ring that is fixed on the stick.

If you have the chrome ring and it's attached on the top of the leather padding well, you can easily see what is going on with inside ring (the one that should be fixed inside, on the stick).

1) Unscrew the knob, it's easy

2) Deattach leather padding from the bottom. It goes off easily. Just grab the leather on one side, pull up, then keep on deattaching arround.

3) After leather is dattached from the bottom, just lift it all up, off from the stick. Now you have the stick on the site. See what's going on with the ring.

I've removed my leather padding once, but just didn' pay attention on the inside ring and the way the outside chrome ring is attached to the leather.

If you can't solve it yourself, just let me know if you have both rings and if something is missing. LET ME KNOW WHERE IS DEATTACHED. I'll go see in mine and let you know how to attach it.

It's pretty easy thing to do, I wouldnt bother going to the dealer if you have all pieces. If you have told me where it was deattached exactely, I could give you the answer already. Just let me know, I'll help.

Ok, then just remove the leather padding the way I've described it. Look for the inner ring that is fixed on the stick, then let me know.
