1.4 And 1.6 Vvt-i Max Torque

Corolla E11

motor 1.4 130Nm@4800rpm

motor 1.6 150Nm@3800rpm

Corolla E12

motor 1.4 130Nm@4400rpm

motor 1.6 150Nm@4800rpm

The same motor 1.6 in avensis and corolla verso have the max torque @ 3900rpm

Why this happens? what are the mecanical differences between them?

Par example the 1.6 vvt-i in Corolla hathback with torque @4800rpm will consume mutch more. A friend of mine with civic 1.6 110cv with torque @4300 is mutch more economic

cannot not say why they are different but ok they may use more fuel but on the other hand a wide torque band is more useful than a narrow one has you can hold a gear longer when needed has in some cars you can experience a sudden loss in power and need to make a quick change up the box to maintain the torque. My MPG in my 1.4 vvt-i is 40-47 and have seen even 50mpg if i use the lighest of touches on the accelator pedel and keep the revs to about 3000rpm even at this engine speed theres plenty off pull. Has for honda using less fuel than toyota i cannot say i have found that in drivin honda's if anything they may be slighty more thirsty than a toyota of the same engine size.

Yep, most of the intake system changed (intake, filter/box, hose and manifold) the exhaust manifold straightened out some and the ECU went up from a 16bit to a 32bit unit if I remember correctly

do these changes make the car any faster/quicker?

I have the E11 facelft with the lower torque range...wont this make it more drivable if more torque is achieved earlier?

I appologise if i sound like an idiot, its cause i am regarding engines.

Essentially yes. If torque arrives earlier you get more acceleration earlier and can hold onto the gear for longer hence overall speed increased.

Depends on the changes as to how much of an improvement they make. Good rule of thumb though is anything that helps get charge in or burnt gas out is going to improve the power (volumetric efficiency). ECU from 16bit to 32 allows for more complex maps and better fine control of the running conditions
