Hi all,

i was driving down the motorway a few weeks ago and felt hot air on my left arm,

thorght it was strange as the vents were on cold. So i felt round the centre console

were the gearstick and handbrake are and it was roasting hot!! :( i could feel the

warm air coming off it. My guess at this time is the cat is over heating for some

reason, does this happen ofton? i have a gen 6 gt (96)

cheers for any help :)

The Cat is supposed to get very hot. - Part of the catalytic process. Wouldn`t hurt to pop it on ramps and check the heat shields are in place.

This is goin to sound silly but was it at night

I know mine gets hot at nights

This is because the light in the ash tray is on full time at night and so on a long run gets quite hot. may be a little further back than you are meanin but may be worth a look

I would investigate a bit more, pull the trim off round the gear lever (just pulls up) then when it does get warm you can pull over and lift it to see if any thing inparticular is getting hot, if it's the actuall base of the hole (the floor) then as Daktari says get the heatshields checked out - most exhaust garages will give it a check for free and just charge you to fix it if it's needed

Cheers for ya input guys,

Ya i know what you mean about the light but no it happens with the lights off to. It

must be exhaust related as the hole console and carpet around it gets hot and the

heat starts to travel up to the heater controls! Sounds like it maybe a heat

shild then, i know the exhuast has been rasping at certen revs. I thorght the cat

might have colaped inside making it over heat, my fual consuption is terrible also,

so thorght it might have a blockage in the system.

I wouldn't be surprised if the heat shield is fine and it's actually a hole in your exhause. This will allow hot gasses to escape and heat the area you describe. Also, you could end up with nasties (bad gases) getting into your car and that can't be good. Get it check asap!

Ya, gona have to have alook under the bugger tomorrow and see wahts going on,

might invest in a new system even though its going to cost around £300 i

bet! :( but should sound nice :D

Thing is my Calibra Turbo used to get warmer round there too

but being a turbo you would expect abit more

exhaust heat, but this has no reason for it realy.

I'm in Ascot mate.
